for anyone here who has had their wisdom teeth pulled how much pain is there, and how long does the pain last (expecting you dont get a dry-socket?) because i was a dumbass and took most of my vicoden before the op. I have about 7 left and a whole script of motrin 600. do you think i'll be good?

Impossible to tell. I had a roommate who had 2 weeks of pain. I had a day of pain that was gone until a dry socket showed up 6 days later.

the 2 left wisdom teeth were taken out a month ago and i had absolutely no where near the pain i expected, just a bit of an strange and lazy feeling for 2 days, could be related to not being allowed ti smoke for 4 days? a hole getting filled being much worse. but i also had an rootcanal just a week ago and that although being painfull at the moment caused no residu pain what so ever. so i could be hard head.
strangely enough after reading probably to much on bluelight i looked forward to the opiates associated wits dental shit, vicodin or maybe oxy are all exotic unknown substances here. seems like we european have to be a lot more adaptic to pain because ibuprofen and paracetamol is all i got. they didn even know what vicodin was when i requested it both my detist an teeth surgeon, or did they?
here you only get opiates when your dying or one of the lucky junks in the free heroin program.

Yeah but you can smoke all the pot you want legally lol..
To the original poster. If you have pain after your dental work is done, and you have no more Vicodin, ask the dentist to refill the script. If you show him that you are really in pain and need help, he/she will most likely refill the script for you.

Wisdom tooth pain lasts appox. 5-7 days, getting better on a daily basis. Now, if your wisdom teeth were "Impacted"(Growing in sideways) your pain can last for up to two weeks because when they pull the teeth, they somtimes bruise the jaw bone! You'll need all the "Vike" you can get your hands on!! Motrin is nothing more than candy! Good Luck!!

I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed by an Army dentist who broke my jaw. It was wired shut for 2 weeks. It still pops to this day. By the second week the pain was more annoying then really hurting.
From my experience Dentists' like to use hydrocodone but will usually only dish out small quantities (like 10-15 7.5mg) but most will give you plenty of refills if you need them. I have never been prescribed anything stronger then 10mg Hydrocodone before from a Dentist.
Are you having them all removed at sametime? I thought they try to only do 2 at a time.

Albert they used to use this approach until they realized it was more effective to do all 4 at once and I'll explain why (or at least what the dentist told us when my bro had his done)...They were finding that most people who would get 2 done would never return for the other 2 b/c of the pain and discomfort they experienced the first time. So while all 4 at once is slightly more painful, overall it's worth it because you get it all over with at once (and we don't have people walking around w/only 2 wisdom teeth).

you should be able to get more meds after the surgery. If he doesn't just offer call him that night and tell him that the pills you got aren't even touching the pain...at all...tell him your whole head and face hurt and you need something else soon
he'll hit you off with another script--->maxidones -or- maybe 5mg percs that he'll tell you to take two
just pretend that you are the biggest baby that ever exsisted and if it was up to you you would just leave the teeth in and you will just deal with the pain for the rest of you life
I go to this one denist that only does extractions. He is always good for 24 ESs leading up to surgery and then usually 30 percs afterward...
plus you must get knocked out! it may cost a bit more...I even payed cash,no dental insurance....BUT... It is the best...last time I went I pretended that this procedure was going to kill me...I ended up with an IV of fetanyl and Versed...pure bliss

I had my wisdom teeth pulled before I had any knowledge of painkillers, opiates, whatever...I feel like an idiot now that I think about what kind of meds I could have gotten for the pain :) , I guess it really depends on your pain tolerance. When I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled I got through without any meds at all. Go figure. :) The pain lasted about 3 days tops...you'll just look like a chipmunk for a bit. ;)

When I got my impacted Wisdom teeth out, they knocked me down with a Versed/Demerol/Ketamine IV. I left with a script of Perc 7.5's and some Motrin800. Not a bad deal.

If you do it under general anaesthesia, you'll likely have a harder time recovering. If you just have nitrous and whatever, it seems to take less time & pain to recuperate. Whatever you do, definitely ask for a refill! It's almost expected.

Assuming there are no complications, it really shouldn't hurt that bad. Ibuprofen worked just as well on my pain after I had mine removed as vicodin... although taking vicodin is much more fun :) You should be able to get another script from your doc if need be, if you're lucky

When i had my wisdom teeth removed i was given a shot of demerol and a script lortab 10/500, and had virtually no pain just swollenss after a good 3-4 days.

it is not too horribly bad, if you smoke cigarettes, just try not to for the first few days, casues dry sockets, if you have to smoke put gaws in your mouth, over the gums so you dont cause as much pain. i don't know what kind of IV drip they put me on but when i came to i was smoking an imaginary cigarette and was happier than a pig in shit! if you can try to score some more pain killers b4 ur vicoden runs out, that would be good, and i know they gave me 40mg of valum for before the surgery, i drank with it to help me "relax" before i got into the office i was gone. just sleep a lot and eat yougurt or applesause and you should be fine, but like i said if you can get your hands on other pharmies that helps too!

I got three (don't ask) wisdom teeth pulled by a crusty old dentist that gave me a local and a script for 20 perc's when it was done. It didn't hurt that much, so when I went home, I decided to forego the Perc's and see what the real pain threshold was. No real discomfort worth talking about. I self-medicated with Guinness and whiskey. When I went back for a post-op examination, I played that I was still experiencing some residual pain and was wondering if I could get something to ease it. Not new on the block, the crusty old dude asked me if I drank whiskey. Stunned by the offbeat nature of the question, I replied in the affirmative. With absolute sincerity, he prescribed as much whiskey as I felt I needed. You gotta respect that. After I completly healed from the surgery, I ate two or three 5mg perc's for fun. Very nice floaty, happy couple of hours. Propensity for conversation increased with overall mood arousal. Typical opioide reaction at that dose for a non-abuser. I've learned from observation of opiate addicted friends to be conservative. Don't develop the tolerance. Just a word of friendly advice.
