Survey: One in 10 Americans Come to Work Stoned
If you're reading this at work right now, there's a pretty good chance you're high.

Twitter executives may not be the only ones getting high on the job. On the heels of Facebook investor Peter Thiel’s recent claims that Twitter’s alleged mismanagement is a result of “a lot of pot-smoking going on,” there is new evidence to suggest that—if true—Twitter employees are in good company. Nearly 10% of all Americans have shown up to work stoned—at least according to a survey of 534 working Americans by Mashable.com and SurveyMonkey.

Apparently this isn’t the first study to expose mind-altered states in the workplace. Last year, a small-business insurance company called Employers surveyed small businesses and found that about 10% of them had an employee show up under the influence of at least one controlled substance in 2013. Among these substances, marijuana came in at 5%.

Of course, different companies and industries have differing views on substance use in the workplace and many still drug test employees. Even in Colorado where recreational pot is now legal, employees who test positive for it at work can be fired. The many arguments against drug testing at work include the inaccuracy of the tests, the steep costs of conducting them, and the invasion of privacy. Also, studies show they don’t actually stop people from taking drugs. Clearly.

Elsewhere in breaking news, this just in: Americans like to get high. Just like everyone else.

I need to be stoned to put up with my shitty simple job, and deal with rude customers

Yeah, I was never able to smoke at work, made me paranoid. But opiates, Benzos, and amphetimines bring it on..Hell, before I had a hookup for opiates and other stuff again and my anxetiy was through the roof I was coming to work pretty drunk(well I would take 5-6 shots of Wild Turkey, sooo not drunk drunk). But smoking makes it just go by so damn slow IMO.

Hell, I have a wonderful, fulfilling, mentally stimulating job working with great people that lets me make my own hours, and even I like to go to work stoned from time to time.

Guilty. Makes the night go by smoother. Not in close contact with anyone, so it works beautifully.

Me too. Night shift by myself. I won't get drunk at work and for sure no LSD, but pot makes work less shit. I wonder how many employers just don't give a shit either? I used to live in Montreal and found out they wouldn't fire anyone at my company for drugs, in fact no one would say anything. That was because company had to offer people free drug counseling before firing them and was too cheap for that.
I would prefer my employees got high at lunch rather than have 4 drinks. People who are anti pot at work are generally ignorant about it or they themselves can't handle it so they assume you can't either.

I served a corporate box at the football on the tail end of an acid trip. I can't of been too bad considering they tipped me well. Then again I was drinking their beers and telling them interesting anecdotes all evening while fractals still trailed the room

I used to bring a j for the ride home. No longer. Cops find any reason to pull you over. Not worth my freedom ATM. But I used to be high all the time delivering meds to people. I'd be on call at home and I'd be smoking all night waiting for calls.

Worked on a bouey field, shuttling people out to their boats for a couple of summers back in college. Smoke on the water. Night shift. Few runs. Good times.
