One Direction, Jonas Brothers... Modern Beatles?

I've heard from a lot of people, who do not like the early Beatles, that the Beatles were nothing more than a typical boyband when they began. I actually heard this on a Dose of Buckly. I like that dude. He pointed out when the Beatles began they made teenybopper pop music for young girls. Most of their songs were love songs, and were incredibly simple. Also, they weren't that good in general. In fact, looking back, is their music that good? I think "I wanna hold your hand" is one of the stupidest songs ever written.
But of course, then came Rubber Soul, and Revolver. After that the Beatles were never the same... Their music matured and it's partly due to them trying acid.

But that leaves one question? What if One Direction did acid? Would their music turn awesome?

It was kind of just the pop music at the time. However, I draw a big distinction between them and the chart music of today because of the fact that they wrote their own songs and played instruments.

The Beatles were original songwriters, not a manufactured pop group. Accomplished musicians.
Demographics of fanbases is not really a good way of assessing a band or "band".

Think New Kids on the Block or some shit. Most boy bands and reality tv kareoke acts don't earn much money either, because they don't write the songs they perform. Performance fees, yes, but not the more lucrative royalties that go to the songwriters employed by their corporate bosses (if they have a hit song or a track that is picked up by an advertisement or something). Most boy bands and the like end up getting ripped off.
