once we fought here

we have become ghosts here
here in this town
our passion is rationed
in tired green tin cups
as we stand waifs in wartime lines
waiting our share

once we fought here
red-cheeked we raised our voices
and held our fists to the sky
but the dying of the light we raged against
has passed us over and set behind us
now we dig sluggish graves in the tyranny
we tried so hard to overcome

as we chanted
so we changed
we forgot
and we were tamed

tonight we shall light what stubs of candle we have
and place them in the sooty windows of our blasted homes
may the small flames
the dirty squares of orange-brown light
be a beacon across this wasteland
perhaps flame can compell flame
and call back the traveller
call back the fire
into our hearts

this poem says so much and can be interpreted in so many defferent ways. i really enjoyed reading this.

Brilliant, as ever.

Your writing always has such an epic feel about it!

Loved this part :)

i'm probaly gonna look like a dork but i just read this again and wanted to reiterate how much i enjoy reading this. not because it makes me happy in a "yay, poetry is fun" kinda way but because it makes me feel lost. frankly, this poem scares the shit out of me. and that is what i like about it. it makes me feel uncertain of the future. though it does end with a bit of hope, it only brings a moment of fleeting hope to an entire incident of hopelessness. liberate the drones.

Postscript: i am very stoned. but nonetheless, sincere.

This is plain out awesome, basically what they^^ said, but these lines...

as we chanted
so we changed

this messes me up, there are so many meanings in these, and even more than that if applied to different people. Brilliant.
