On Lamotrigine, about to take mescaline

I'm on Lamitrigine for bipolar II rapid cycling, started the meds a couple of weeks ago, now taking 50 mg daily.

I'm about to take some San Pedro cactus. I have taken it before 3 times and believe it or not, it kept my depression at bay for good many months. Now that I started taking this Lamotrigine, I just wanted to check if there are any possible interactions and dangers of doing this. I was already bipolar when taking the cactus previous time, it only had positive effects on me then.

So, can mescaline interact with Lamotrigine in a bad way?

I would definitely recommend against stopping your seizure medication. I know people who have been severely injured (a one nearly killed) because they stopped taking their meds, just for a few days.

If being taken for bipolar disorder, it would probably be okay to stop for a few days, but again, I strongly advice you to consider the consequences of stopping your med.

I've been taking Lamictal daily for bi-polar for 3 years. In contrast to other psych meds, I didn't find that it interfered with the psychedelics I took. (Contrast with Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft and Prozac) My shrink, however, doesn't recommend taking more than a day off my regimen and I trust this shrink. I think your friend will probably be okay if s/he takes one day off, takes mushrooms in a reasonable dose, then resumes his/her Lamictal regimen the next day.

The reason I add "reasonable dose" to my post is that I think with anyone who's already on medication for serious underlying psychological issues should tread lightly with psychedelics. Someone who's battling bi-polar is probably tempting fate by dosing 4-5 mgs of mushrooms.

I DO think that people with underlying conditions can gain psychological benefits from doing psychedelics, but the drugs should be approached with care. Even with my pretty severe bi-polar I think I really benefited from experiences with LSD and mushrooms. But I was always chill with my doses.
