On hour 48 of Tramadol withdrawal - can I take a Vicodin?

Hi, I've been reading threads for a while in an attempt to get courage to stop taking Tramadol. I first took it after I tapered down off of Methadone. I was on it for 3 years and my highest dose was 100 mg. I tapered very slowly and after my 1 mg dose, I started to feel withdrawal symptoms the next day. I started Tramadol to relieve that and used it for about 3 weeks and then stopped. I was only using 100 mg a day. I had no withdrawal symptoms at the time, but I was also going through a divorce, things were chaotic, life was new, so I didn't have time to focus on anything going on with my body. (maybe a lot of it is mental, yes?)

I started taking it again about 2 years later when I got in a relationship that really stressed me out, and I used Tramadol to self-medicate. Soon I was taking them all the time. Fast forward 3 years and I'm taking 12-17 pills a day. Not even liking the way they make me feel anymore, I began to taper off and come up with a detox plan. I got down to 5 50mg pills a day, but couldn't make myself decrease less. I was already feeling symptoms of withdrawal, so I decided to go cold turkey. I took my last dose of 3 50mg pills on Tuesday at 3:00 which was 48 hours ago.

On Wednesday morning, I woke up and immediately took the following:

L-Glutamine 1,500 mg
L-Glutathione 300 mg
Valerian Root 1350 mg
Gabapentin 800 mg
Clonodine .05
Immodium
Magnesium
2 multivitamins
B6

I didn't feel great, but I didn't feel terrible. Just lethargic and cold. I couldn't get warm. And I had to take A LOT of Immodium. The rest of the day went like this:

Wed 3:30 PM
Zanaflex 4 mg
Valerian Root 1350 mg
Nerountin 800 mg
Clonodine .05 mg

Wed 7:15 pm
L-Glutamine 1,500 mg
Valerian Root 1350 mg
Immodium
Magnesium
B6
5-HTP
Kolonopin .5 mg

Wed 10:30 pm
Gabapentin 600mg
Zanaflex .5 mg
Clonodine .075

I slept straight through the night. (Impossible, right? That was one of my worst detox symptoms and I have insomnia anyway. I swear it is the Gabapentin/Clonodine mixture.) My alarm went off at 5:45 for a workout class. I got up to go, but was dizzy, disoriented and couldn't see straight, so I went back to bed.

When I got up today I felt pretty normal, but still repeated what I had taken yesterday morning. Around 11:00, I really started to feel the anxiety to I took a Klonopin. Then I had a root canal appointment at 2:00 (DUMB, RIGHT?). I took another Gabapentin, 1350 Valerian Root and a .5 xanax. I'm home from the root canal and honestly it is 3:40 right now and I feel completely normal.

Here's my question. The numbness is wearing off and my tooth is hurting. I took a bunch of Ibprofen and that isn't helping. I have some vicodin. Will this mess up my detox by taking a vicodin? I've read some people say you can use opiates to relieve tramadol withdrawal symptoms. I'm not worried about getting hooked on the vicodin. I just don't want it to stall the detox am I going through.

Also, has anyone else had such great results with Gabapentin and Clonidine? I'm going to start taking some Sam-e and L-Tyrosine soon to work on the mood problems I will probably have. I'm a little weary of the L-Tyrosine as I already have hypothyroidism and taken medicine to even keep it in check.

Thanks for any advice!

Its well reported that Gabapentin works wonders with opaite withdrawals, for me it did aswell for some personal experience there. But I dont believe takin some hydrocodone will interfere with ur tramadol detox ? I mean I dont see why, its just a different drug right ? Maybe someone else has a more educated response, but good luck bruh.

not sure if tramadol is a full agonist so it might have different things about the W/Ds but, i know ive w/d from Hydro a few times and any other opiate will stop the w/d and restart the clock from my experience unless tapered back off

tramadol is a weak agonist of one type of opiate receptor, but more importantly in this case, it also has other effects on your serotonin and norepinephrine levels that other opioid meds don't. this means that going cold turkey is potentially dangerous, unlike with straight opioids, where withdrawal is uncomfortable but not medically dangerous. from what i understand the main risk is seizures, and the benzos/gabapentin can help prevent that, but all in all it sounds like things are getting a little complicated.

bottom line is, i can't speak to how the vic will affect your detox but i def think you should get some medical supervision for this plan, cold turkey might not be the way to go.

the dizziness is probably because of the clonidine... be very careful when u get up too quickly with that stuff!!! everytime i would get up when i was taking it for WD i would have to clutch the wall for about a minute so i didn't fall over! how much immodium did you take? immodium is an opiate... and in large amounts, can stop or alleviate all WD symptoms. i have taken a whole bottle of 48 before and not necessarily felt high or amazing, but i was functionable! def best drug in my opinion for WD. and i read a study about it being given to patients in WD and they reported it was much more helpful than clonidine in all areas such as sweats, nausea, dhirrea, anxiety, restlessness, etc. i really don't know much about tramadol so i couldn't tell u if taking vicodin would just start ur process over once youve stopped taking them. good luck!

Tramadol lowers the seizure threshold, which would mean that one would be at less of a risk of seizure upon stopping.

The OP has made their decision regardless, as this thread is one and a half months old. Taking hydrocodone would have probably thrown them back into withdrawal, especially if they'd previously experienced opaite/oid withdrawal.
