Olfactory hallucinations -- Psychedelic Fragrances -- Aromas for Tripping

I've noticed that during an afterglow, there is a wonderful, fantastic smell that I've never been able to name.

After tripping, if I hear great music or relax and breathe deeply, I will smell this fragrance. It is absolutely amazing. I don't know what it is. It is a trippy smell, and that's all I can describe it as.

This made me wonder: have any of you ever hallucinated beautiful scents? Has any drug made you smell something with powerful properties? Or increased your appreciation of smell?

What are some scents that you find especially comforting, mysterious, illuminating, etc. for a trip?

Weird thread I know but it's drug inspired

I can't say I've ever hallucinated a smell before, though I'm sure it's possible. However LSD has without a doubt increased my perception and appreciation of scents.

Incense, Hookah, even a nice candle is pretty much a staple of tripping. One of my favorite scents to enjoy is some fine cannabis. The pungent smell of some fresh Sour Diesel or an exotic Kush is almost intoxicating while tripping :D

For me the hallucinations are almost 98% visual. Though this could be because humans tend to use sight above all other senses.

Have had a few times with very minor olfactory, auditory, taste hallicination.

i've never hallucinated a smell either, but i love burning sage incense when i'm tripping! supposedly it keeps away evil spirits... it usually makes me sneeze when i first light it, but i always feel much better after after those few sneezes. :)

I only started noticing olfactory hallucinations after numerous ketamine experiences.

Ketamine produces a unique lack of smell, which makes the air smell sterile/metallic, and often after an experience this sense of smell (or lack thereof) is still present.

I've noticed that this same state can be accomplished through the use of incense. In the presence of a static aroma, you cease to be aware of it. Keep this up for hours and when you are exposed to normal scents again, they explode in your mind.

OP should investigate scent and taste perception distortions and manipulation while tripping.

Miracle fruit and various odors to potentiate/modify a psychedelic experience.

Funny you mentioned Ketamine, this thread exists because of the DXM scent phenomenon. Dissociatives are quite odd, but amazing.

Everyone is about the visuals more so than anything else it seems. I t hink about applying the psychedelic to all the senses. I would love to radically alter and distort scent, touch, smell and hearing (this happens already, but I'd like to do more with music appreciation -- I might make a thread).

Tactile (body high, to some extent), olfactory (not as prominent as I'd like), and gustatory (I have NEVER had this and I want to) hallucinogens. Can you imagine? 8o

I really enjoy the scent of hookahs. Shisha tobacco makes me drool. It smells and tastes so good. <3

I've had gustatory, but not olfactory, distortion while on 2C-B and (more intensely) on 2C-C. But taste and smell are quite closely linked in the brain, so it's not far off. The nature of it was essentially the taste equivalent of when the visual scene seems quantized and streaming towards me (something I've experienced mostly on psilocin mushrooms). It's like digital pure taste information is streaming into my brain and I can physically sense every bit of information in that stream. Very intense, rather overwhelming experience, but quite a fun too, to get another sense involved in the trip. :)

Never have hallucinated a smell while tripping. But smells are wonderful on psychedelics.

Sometimes I'll experience a memory of a smell and/or flavor in my mind. Said flavor or smell manifests for no reason whenever it wants. Sometimes it's good, mostly Its something bad like dog shit or garbage. Never heard of anyone else getting this.

I've 'hallucinated' a particular smell all my life... it comes out of the blue and years may pass before I smell it again. For me, it is unrelated to any drug intake as this began when I was a young child... probably the last time it happened was 3 or 4 years ago.

Very hard to describe... unlike anything I've ever smelled before... somewhat floral,..but not...
almost like ozone... but not... it doesn't smell purple, maybe a bit of blue with magenta thrown in if that makes any scents..

but it is very mysterious and delicious. I associate it with altered sense of perception though because in each instance I am fixated on it and recall the event very clearly (and what I was doing at the time).

Odd and wonderful.. so maybe it's something like you describe.
