Older video games: Collector's value

I was perusing e-bay the other day and I was surprised to find some of the older classics and cult classics going for upwards of $120.00. This prompted me to dig through my basement to see what vintage titles I could find.

So far I've come up with...

Final Fantasy (NES)
Final Fantasy II (SNES)
Final Fantasy III (SNES)
Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)
Parasite Eve (PS1)
Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Super Bomberman I and II (SNES)
Dragon Warrior (NES)
Dragon Warrior III (NES)
Legend of Zelda (NES) (Original gold case)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Illusion of Gaia (SNES)
Secret of Mana (SNES)

Interesting the title most sought after is FFVII, with the original black case version going for upwards of $80. Other games on that list if factory sealed would be worth more than $200. Unfortunately, most have been used to their fullest extent.

Suikoden II costs as much as a goddamn Ninetendo DS right now and I had like 100 chances to buy 100 copies for like $20 bucks back in the day. What makes it suck is that I was fully aware of the game at the time, because I had played Sukoden all the way through once (which means that it was about as good as it gets for a non-Squaresoft console rpg). I heard part II was better, and I still don't know why I have copies of shit like Colony Wars and Rollcage but no Suikoden II lol.

Your collection is pretty damn nice, Kyk. You could probably sell it all at once right now for like $1500 but I think that you should hold onto it for like 10 more years. If I had all of those games in mint (I only have some, i.e. FFIII (SNES), and VI/V (PS1)) I would want to hold onto them for sentimental value at least for now. Jesus, in like 1997 I had to pull people's teeth to get another copy of FF III. So many people were like "fuck you" even though I was offering like $50 lol.

i'm trying to find a pic of our first family video console. i don't remember the name, but it was black (lol) and one of the first games we had was a motorbike/motocross one. the controllers only had a sliding throttle, that was it.
 
^Do you have a higher resolution and/or more pics (of that stuff there)?

i was looking at getting a segaCD because one of the best RPGs EVER was made in english for the SegaCD only... Popful Mail.. but usually the cheapest you find it on eBay for is like $60-80... no freakin way... so instead im just reliving it with Kega Fusion :D

you should really add Act Raiser to that list... what an epic game..

and i'm working on Dragon Warrior(rom) right now.. what a great game.. i beat it when i was like 10yo or so
 
I used to work at used video game store in high school and and we held all of our old expensive cathridges under the register in a drawer. Well at the store there was no cameras or clear inventory of the older games, so I procured a nice stock of classics and old systems. The systems I had to buy but theyr were cheap.

I procured Chronotrigger, FF2, FF3, Earthbound, FF1, Lufia 1 and 2, Secret of Mana, Zelda 1,2,and 3, Phantasy Star on Genesis, Bubble bobble 1 and 2 on Nes. To name some off the top of my head.
In 2001 at my store Chronotrigger was 70 dollars and FF2 was 50 and 3 was 35

As a kid I loved RPGs, I sold these back to work in a different location and bought a new stuff, I regret that decision now.
 
How about Dreamcast? :D I still have my dreamcast and its games.

I just bought the collector's edition of myst and used walk through manuals are going for $120+ for that game on amazon.

Woah! Back up little man. What's this "family" console shit? It was my Grandstand Television game. You do this everytime & I'm telling Mum!!! :X

I do still have it somewhere including the game cartridges & controllers.
 
I have a lot of those old final fantasy games, chrono trigger, and a number of others WITH boxes and manuals. :D
