Old-timey, rare, or otherwise mostly phased-out pharmaceuticals you'd like to try but will probably never get to

What are some of the drugs that you read about where you've gone damn, that sounds right up my alley, only to find it has been discontinued except for a rare disease which affects 11 people worldwide and is only available with a special prescription from the Government of Antigua & Barbada?

Here's mine.

DEXTROMORAMIDE
Basically only available in palliative care in the Netherlands. Withdrawn from most markets due to addiction concerns.

DIACETYLDIHYDROMORPHINE (AKA DIHYDROHEROIN)
Heroin, which is faster-acting, more potent, and lasts 4-7 hours? Sign me up.

PHENMETRAZINE
According to some anecdotes, the most pro-sexual of all stimulants. The favoured stimulant of the Beatles during their Hamburg years.

SECOBARBITAL
Usually cited as the one of with the most abuse potential. Would have been interesting to try.

METHAQUALONE
Carries an almost mythical reputation.

This is a pretty neat little bit. I am going to look into some of these things. My interest is piqued. But, I feel like methaqualone is still somewhat accessible.

I used to take Dolmane to sleep, best sleeping med I ever had, they don't make it anymore.
I have a couple of those in my stash of ancient meds. It was my grandma's. Never tried it though.
I have a couple Doriden, too. Kind of tempting to try a doors-and-fours someday, but honestly probably never will. Just curious about the hoopla. Maybe a one-door-and-two-3s 😆

Yeah, seconals.

I tend to think we romanticise rare or phased out drugs much more then we should. The disappointing truth is that most of them are either no better then the modern alternative or worse.

People think barbiturates are much better then benzodiazepines but qualitatively they're very similar. The same applies to methaqaulone.

Having said that, id likely to try pethidine one day. I know it's still available (albeit rare) so maybe one day I will get an opportunity.
