Old school pharmaceutical speed

My grandmother is in her 90s and she's starting to show signs of dementia, so I've been staying with her for the past few months to help take care of her. So I was in the kitchen today, and I noticed, in a drawer of old junk, this very old looking prescription bottle, filled with a crystalline white powder. The label is kinda ripped, and the name of the prescription is partially obscured, but (much to my amazement) I could clearly see the word "methamphetamine." Here's a link to a picture I took of it:

It's actually two pictures that I pasted together so you can see all the text. It clearly says "may be habit forming" so you know it's gotta be something good. I'm guessing this was prescribed to my gramma back in the 60s or 70s, when doctors were handing out speed to depressed housewives like it was candy.

So my questions are: What exactly is this stuff? And, is it safe to try it, considering that it's 40+ years old? Thanks!

It look like its Methamphetamine like you already know. Behing 40 years old wont make it dangerous, the only possible thing is that it became less active or inactive by the time.

The other looks like it says Pentobarbital...what a stash! Score lol

I know, right?! I feel like I won the junky lottery, haha!

Anyway, what I meant to ask was, does anyone have any idea what the actual brand name of the drug is, so I can do a little research? It's apparently something that ends with "BUTAL 10"

It's Desbutal. 10mg methamphetamine, 60mg pentobarbital. Don't forget to consider that the powder may not be the original drug that came in the bottle (I think Desbutal was a pill.) I reuse old RX containers for all sorts of things.

If you remove the sticker written TO on, you might find out. It might also simply be Nembutal (Pentobarbital)

I tried, but it's really stuck on there -- there's no way without destroying the label underneath. Anyway, I'm sure oar9fi is right: It's Desbutal.

I know you said its age won't make it harmful, but now that you know there's also barbs in it, do you still think it couldn't go bad? I'll probably just eat a small amount first, but I still want to make sure it's not going to put me in the hospital or something!

Nothing great can come out of eating 40 year old meth, just thinking out loud but I think there's really no point in trying to get anything out of it.

I don't think you should take it. Is it possible your grandma just liked to keep her crystal meth in an antique prescription bottle? But really, it's obvious that the bottle was repurposed if it was in a junk drawer. Interesting and cool, though,

Knowing my grandma, it seems unlikely that it's a repurposed bottle. It was actually inside a cardboard box that had a bunch of old prescription pill bottles in it, none of them repurposed. Gramma never threw anything away -- expired bottles of aspirin, magazines that are as old as my parents, etc... She was kind of a hoarder.

Not sure why it says "tablets" when it's a power, but I know pharmacy policies were a lot more lax back then. Hmmm... is there any way to test this stuff?

Btw, I found an old ad for this stuff:

Well if you really want to try it, I would suggest to rub 0,2mg of the powder on your tongue and wait at least 2-3h before doing anything, see how you react, if you are allergic or if its not 25D-NBOMe in it. (pretty unlikely but who knows what this powder is).

Then try snorting a few milligrams. Snorting over Oral for a good reason, if you react badly you can try cleaning your nose rather then absorbing it completely in your stomach.

Sigh... it turns out oar9fi was right -- it's just a repurposed pill bottle. I looked at it again and noticed that on the back were the handwritten letters "ALT." Then it hit me: It's salt. She was using it as a salt shaker. I just wanted so bad to believe I had found some pharmaceutical-grade speed, haha! Oh well, it's still a pretty cool keepsake...

Hahaha that was hilarious. As I worked through the thread, I was screaming at you not to take it, and was going to say so when I reached the end, until that whole salt shaker thing hahahahahaha

Hi there,

I was wondering if you could speak to me for a few minutes about the drug you found - which it looks like it may be Nembutal.

I'm doing research for a short documentary on Nembutal for VICE UK and wanted to speak to someone who has encountered it. This will be under any conditions of anonymity you require..

If you're interested could you please send an e-mail to [email protected] or call me on +44 781 600 1108. My deadline is Friday so would be great to hear if you're interested before then.

Also, yeah, anyone else who knows about Nembutal - I'm interested to hear!
