My wife has a coworker who's 15 y/o son is Deadmau5 for Halloween.

Okay, Here's why I respect Deadmau5 :

I think I am in love.
All technicalities aside.... He knows how to completely cajole vulnerable crowds of rolling folks that put all of their hopes on the DJ.
He just has this magic touch....the way the volume pans and glides, it's all so perfect at an event. (I prefer Orbital to any other artist, but Joel has something about his music and performance that entranced me.) During his years as a raver he must have been very observant of what moves people and keeps them going and going into wild oblivion - what type of sounds they are drawn to when under the influence (or not). Perhaps most of his material is not that original, but he knows how to package and present it to the needy ear, superbly. IMO.
He also appears very human and extremely down-to-earth... this is a guy I can picture myself having a trip with or competing over a video game with. (Not to mention I feel closer to him knowing that he used to be into the mod scene!) All of this is why I appreciate him.

Uhm I mt him IRL and I also have spoken to him on FB. HE is NOT down to earth at all. His SET SUCKED HARD at Ultra last year and he headlined.. shit paparazzi was better! and hes some random cali DJ..... Deadmau5 is a garbage producer now he just recycles loops from old tracks as far as his electro, then he jumped on the dubstep bandwagon.... and he fucking can't do that right.. "raise your weapon" SUCKS and "sofi needs a ladder" is ok cuz sofi can sing. Strobe, arguru, brazil, fml, reward is mroe cheese (before it got played out...) and faxing berlin too was good... its all down hill from here. skrillex is younger and is WAY ahead of the mau5.

Haters gon' hate. I'm not a massive lover of him, but he's a good DJ. And Tiesto is still amazing, regardless of the mainstream love.

Um, do you consider the vocals on "Sofi Needs a Ladder" singing? It's closer to rap then singing. If you want to talk about singing ironically the song "Raise Your Weapon" has an excellent example of the vocalization known as "singing."
Deadmau5 is already pulling a Tiesto, moving towards more female vocal pop type stuff and away from the hardcore dedicated dance music he used to make. He is trying too hard to make "epic" sounding songs now, in 2-3 years he's gonna be just like Tiesto and not even make dance music anymore, just electropop I bet.
Also it's hard when there are other people giving Deadmau5 a run for his money already. Mumbai Science anyone?

deadmau5 has always used female pop vocals in his music, like all those songs with Melleefresh and of course "I remember". Yes deadmau5 is "pulling a Tiesto" in the sense that he has become insanely popular. But why hold that against him? It's not his fault he has a gazillion idiot fans. Hate his fans not him. Same goes for Tiesto. And by the way if I were an artist I'd want to be popular too.
Not holding it against him, just worried that he's gonna do a genre shift like Tiesto. Benny Benassi is pretty popular and blew up like crazy and never really changed his sound/genre, so let's hope Deadmau5 can do that too

I hear what you're saying, but also artists evolve and change over time. It gets boring doing the same thing/style indefinitely. I should know, I draw and my drawings have changed tremendously over the years. The key to art I think is to evolve, change, and improve while maintaining your identity. Just my opinion

I hate deadmau5 because of One Trick Pony. Making a song as a direct shot to dubstep(and rusko) is immature, fit for the rap world, not EDM.

Isn't Deadmau5 widely known to be a jerk/douchebag anyway? The guy also has a full page rant out there about why DJ's are talentless hacks and how he has no respect for them. Not really surprising that a douchebag is going to act liek a douchebag, but good thing he is an artist and I could care less how big a tool he may be as long as he makes great music.

In this case though, him being a tool has fallen into his work as an artist. If I met him I would spit in his face and punch him in the ribs, that is before I got tackled by his security.

I was just speaking about him as a person. As a producer, the guy is a friggin pro. He did more for electro than Benassi
