I've ignored this long enough, but I can't quote people for some reason. I've tried both the "reply" button and the "quote" button, but it's not working. I'm getting mad because I see other people who are able to quote, why isn't it working for me?

what happens when you click the quote button?

even if the button is not working, you can always hand code it?

this: [QUOTE=Eyes On the Roll]I've ignored this long enough[/QUOTE]

produces this:

You have to make sure that the quote tags stay intact. Sometimes one of the brackets will get deleted if you are deleting part of the post.

Another way to quote is to copy/paste the text, highlight it, and then click the quote icon which is the white bubble thing all the way to the right of all the icons above the text box. If you want it to say the persons name then you have to do it like in alasdairms post, writing out the equal sign followed by the name, after the word 'quote' in the first tag.

You shouldn't have to go through all the trouble though, and clicking the quote icon on the bottom right of a persons post should work just fine.

When i hit "quote" or "reply" it just opens up a quick reply box without the quote attached,at all, like it will be completely blank. Thanks suggesting to manually attach the code, I think I'll have to copy paste and do that from now on. Idk why it doesn't work for me, maybe I'm just stupid. Thanks for the help though.

it's hard to troubleshoot an issue like this if you won't provide information. please revisit post #3 and answer the questions?

There wasn't really any information to provide.

Which theme are you using? Normal or one of the mobiles? Normal

What is your browser and device? Firefox. Toshiba Laptop.

Do any other other buttons not work (edit, navtabs)? No.

Do you have scripts disabled in your browser? No.

I use the same browser and computer but it works for me.

Try this:
Click 'settings' on the top right
Click 'general setting' towards the bottom left in the 'my account' section
Under 'Miscellaneous Options' towards the bottom of the page, make sure that you have Standard Editor selected.

I'm not sure if that will do anything, but it's worth a try. While you are in there you might want to mess with some other options to see if that does anything.

I also wanted to mention that the reply button on the bottom of a post does not quote the post. Only clicking the box with the word 'quote' will do that. The box to the right of the quote box is only for multi-quoting, and only works once you click quote on the last post in the series of posts that you would wish to quote.

I have had quotes not work properly recently, but only occasionally and only in certain threads. Here's an example, you can see that a number of people in this thread had issues with quoting:
http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/627421-Have-to-go-back-to-MMT-or-suboxone-what-a-choice!!

And in my case I am using the same browser and OS and settings as I always use, I used the quote button at the bottom of the post, didn't edit or remove the quote tags, but I didn't actually notice whether or not the quotes looked abnormal in the text box because I wasn't checking, (as I'd assumed they'd be fine). I guess for my issue I can just look closer to make sure the tags and text are complete, and look at the post to make sure it formatted properly and edit it if not. But it does seem weird that these threads have a bunch of screwed up quotes from different users.

How strange.

I can't think of any reason why that would occur unless there was a conflict with a character in somebody's username. The quoting system is part of the built-in BB code, so not something we have much dealing with.

Please report any future instances here.
