OiOi! It's the world cup thread!

We played well yesterday and I believed that we could have won it,
My dreams were crushed when the Italian scored that 2nd goal :(
Without benzo there was no way I could even sleep,
Sad, sad day :(

On the whole, I hate football but I come out of hiding every 4 years to watch the World Cup. :p

I'm really looking forward to watching Germany today. They were great fun to watch in 2010.

Didn't expect Germany to be this much stronger than Portugal! Even before Pepe pulled out his trademark headbutt they really outdid them imo. Good to see Ronaldo so frustrated, too

Meh, Portri had a oenalty against them and a man sent off.

I put £14 on Italy at 25/1...... c'mon u Italians!!!

As much as I don't like footy, and don't watch it, I love hearing the banter about it. Sort of a togetherness kind of feeling about it somehow, the competitive talk, the laughs and banter. I tend to support England as I think Wales have only been in it once, I think, and are better at rugby than at footy.

Bwhahaha... (not at you ponch :( ) if you guys aren't watching, I strongly suggest you turn on the TV for the 2nd half of this match.

It's either going to be a great comeback or an epic fail.

Spain are really sucking but more to the point, Chile are taking advantage of this...

Is anyone betting on this? I put money on italy, spain, holland, croatia, mexico, portugual before the tournament. Italy I put most of my stakes on

Bizarre choices Raas.

I've got money on Argentina to beat Brazil in the final at 20/1, Brazil to win with Neymar top scorer at 14/1, Thomas Mueller to be top scorer at 28/1 and a few other singles.

I also had stuck some cash on Spain to win the world cup before this game started as they were 16/1. Wasn't expecting them to capitulate, again.

Not yet, but I might drop a ton on england just because of the odds.

Chile were immmense against spain today, great match. I've hear the oz-nederlands was amazing too but I haven't seen it.

fuck me, what the hell happened to Spain!? Saying that, as owen pointed out, Chile were awesome. Australia too, did not know they could play football.

Yeah, my reason was - apart from Spain - they were all 25/1 - 80/1 Just put a few quid on each and that's 5 teams who are decent enough to win it (with some luck) if one of them makes it, it will be a good pay out.

Good thinking, raas :)

This is one of the reasons I like the World Cup... teams will come out & give it their all even if they know they have little chance of winning. Just getting as far as they can is a victory - they want to put on as good a show for their fans (country) as they can.

You really can't play down the importance of the mental aspect of the game at times like these... Spain clearly have the talent to win, they were probably just not prepared for what happened against Holland & in the aftermath, couldn't cope with Chile who were on pretty good form. Maybe, just a laymans guess.... I know fuck all about football really.

I agree with that, Chatative, though I'm not into footy myself, I 100% agree with your post, was what I meant in an earlier post on here by there's a sense of togetherness. There seems to be both for the teams and the supporters and I do like that. There is something magical about the World Cup in that respect that even I can feel.

Well, it looks like yet another 4 hours of sheer tedium is about to break loose on the telly - think I'll go and have a wank......

(Let's hope we're finally put out of our misery tonight eh?)
