Ohio school plans to drug test every student — using $40 kits sold by its president’s brother

A Massachusetts-based medical company hopes to expand its market into drug-testing private school students with the help of its CEO’s brother.

James Kubacki oversees St. Edward High School in Cleveland, and his brother, Raymond Kubacki, is president and CEO of Psychemedics, which claims at least $7 million in quarterly revenue.

But the company sees an opportunity for growth.


“Our primary focus is workplace drug testing,” Raymond Kubacki said last year. “Secondarily would be emerging markets, and one of those would be schools and colleges.”

Cleveland Scene reported that the company will provide those services to three private schools in northeast Ohio, including St. Edward, that plan mandatory drug testing for all students starting next fall.

About 980 students at St. Edward will be tested for illegal drug use, along with 340 students at Gilmour Academy and about 1,500 at St. Ignatius High School.

No other schools in the area currently test students for drug use.

fuck them private school chumps, i'm glad they're getting drug tested.

if this was a public school it'd be some bullshit, but these kids are too good for public school so they're voluntarily at a private school, they're not forced to be there.

This seems rather small minded if this is really how you perceive things.

For one... They are kids, and their parents likely make them go. But hey let's hate the rich kids because we proudly leach off of the system... What can we do?
 
How convenient the guys brothers owns the drug testing firm. I wonder of that's just a coincidence lmao...this is horrible. Welcome to the new police state. And the school admins thought the kids who smoke pot might show up to class from time to time.. I can see ppls parents pulling them from this school BC this whole idea is about as unamerican as you can get.

Exactly. I went to a few private schools and a few public ones (including ones in rougher neighborhoods). It all depended on what money my parents had. I had no say in the matter and was not "too good" for public school in fact I preferred public school. Private schools are always better for learning but who cares about that when there a kid? A lot of the kids were just like me.

I think that schools should be happy the kids are showing up to school and worry more about why are schools are lagging behind the rest of the developed world. And its not cause of the drugs.

Fuck you too.

I went to private school as a kid, was promptly kicked out in the 8th grade and went to public school like I wanted to all along. If you think kids WANT to be in private school.. you haven't been to private schools.
 
I can see the results of these drug tests being able to change if a reasonable donation happened to be made out to the school by the parents of the offending student.
 
I went to private school 1st thru 4th then public 5th thru 8th and went to an all boys Christian private hs. I thought I'd miss having girls around but they used to have "mixers" where only guys from the school could go but it was open to all girls private and public, tho mostly pribate school girls attended.

Not to mention the fact that drugs were everywhere lol and this was one of the less expensive private schools in the area. I loved going there. Got to fuck around with your buddies all day long, had free periods to do basically whatever you wanted. Of say it was a positive experience. There is no way in hell this kind of drug testing policy would even leave the ground floor I'm discussion.
