State Comp

Last year there was 1 person from Toledo. He lost and was a very upset. He got there at 12 and the comp started at 10. We made him go as soon as he got there and it wasent worth the headache.

i am happy to participate in this battle....i missed out on it last year....thanx sammy.....it will be a fun battle with lots of the best local talent....cant wait...Peace, DJ MAJIK

I'll be honest with you. This doesn't seem as if it is going to be a contest. Because most of us just work on our mixes in between songs and then there are those of us that work on how many tunes we can throw into a set. Then there are those that scratch. And those that do other things. It's really impossible to battle with the many and varied sytles that we all have here.

I'm frankly just happy to be playing beside some truly great Ohio talent!

Thanks Sammy for having this event so we can all get down and have some fun!

ummmmm...

I thought that a battle was based on a DJ's ability to perform a set using as many of these technics as possible.
Peace,
Shinma

Yeah well most of us dj's don't use those techniques, as you can see most of these dj's are not scratchers or anything else other than straight mixing dj's.

"Yeah well most of us dj's don't use those techniques, as you can see most of these dj's are not scratchers or anything else other than straight mixing dj's."

You will be surprised. I know for a fact that a lot of these DJ's have skills that they will bust out at the Battle. Like Jason "Lemon" Lyman. I had no idea what he was holding back until the finals last year. Kid Chaos had one of the best sets in the Prelims I've ever heard! And DJ Impulse pulled off some funky ass tones and cuts that caught even the judges by surprise. That is just a few examples, and this year I think you will see more just for the simple fact of what everyone saw last year. Everyone will take it to another level.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DJ SERGIO! NEW RESIDENT DJ @ RAIN in Las Vegas! He has a mix show in LV also plus 2 other residencys that I cant remember. Thats a Columbus boy moving into one the the top clubs in the world!

There was some sick ass tricks thrown down at last years event.
Has it been an entire year already?
Many of the djs pulled out their best arsenal last year, so Im sure that the level will be up a notch this year!

Well I did hear about Aus-10 doing DNB on three decks at one of the slots. And I know about Kid Chaos. He's always finding some way to rip it up. I'm just glad to be playing with these other great local dj's. It should be a lot of fun.

Been looking forward to this for a while. Last year I had one of the best times spinning I think I've ever had, despite the fact that I was unfortunate enough to be spinning the same night as the guy who went on to win the whole thing (Tommy D). This year I will reclaim my honor!!!! *strikes Power Ranger pose*

By the way, if there is a DnB battle, I think it's only fair to warn everyone spinning:

Beware of Shinma....that's all I'm gonna say...

Please allow me to explain....

OK, Jeffrey, I meant no harm in my remark. I started out spinning techno, then trance, then chicago house, then trancecore, then jungle, w/ breaks thrown into all those. If it can be BPM matched, I can spin it. Not boasting, just proud of the hard work I've put in over the years.
I've dug on jungle & DNB since before I ever went to my first party. I was uneducated regarding labels and artists, and I was too "shy" to bug anyone about their track selection after a set.
When Clay opened All City Beats, I finally had a chance to listen over more than just Aphrodite, LTJ, or Roni Size and I was hooked. (I respect the afore mentioned pioneers greatly, but most of their tracks are not my cup of tea to spin)
As you can see, I understand the importance of quality mixing. (too many don't)
My frustration comes from the idea that someone who works their ass off to learn new technics is somehow a "trick" DJ, and should be separated from other DJ's. I'm not referring to hip-hop turntablists, they are in a class all their own, and rightfully so. But scratches and 1 or 1/2 bar juggles show that the learning experience has not stopped at mixing for that DJ.
With all due respect, if the stiffness of the competition worries you, work harder.... That's what I and every "trick" DJ had to do. Besides, I would consider leaning on scratching or short fast mixes in a 4/4 battle to be detrimental because it does not exemplify a well rounded DJ.
Best of luck to you, play with your heart.

Oh yeah, thanks for the props Sparrow. I'll do my best to live up to it. Let 'em know this year my man!
Peace,
Shinma

Shinma, it good to know that you've worked so hard to perfect your mixing techniques.

I will play with my heart and may hopefully do something to suprise everyone there.

BTW, Sammy, what kind of mixer will be supplied at the show?

Jeffrey
