Official Vegas Scene Thread

Drai's won't care if you are rolling when you come in, they see that a lot.
Cheetah's is free to get in for girls, not sure about Spearmint.
Utopia was doing hip-hop on Fridays. Not sure if it is still doing that, or if it is any good. So I'd only recommend them as a Saturday possibility.
Ra is the "stand by" for Friday nights... No club has really come along and made a name for itself on Friday, but Ra is a place that always has pretty good music, people with glow sticks and all that stuff. And they are having a special dj that night.
Oh, I did forget about Curve. That place is doing well. Open Fri. & Sat., and it gets packed on Saturdays. It has 3 rooms and a small balcony overlooking the strip. I don't know how well it does on Fridays, but probably okay. The music ranges from hip hop sets to trance sets in 2 rooms, and then loungy deep house in another room. It is not, IMO, as roller friendly as, say, Ra or Utopia. I didn't see any glow toys there. Some people in sunglasses, but looked more like tweakers. Really just a bizarre mix of people from suits to the latest club wear to tacky...not really a bad thing, just different. I like to be submerged with people in a similar mindset when I go out, which is why I tend to go back to Ra or Utopia.
Also, Hush at the Polo Towers sometimes has some good stuff. It is a rooftop bar, and the sometimes open up the rooftop pool area which can be fun. But not sure if the weather will be too cold for that in 2 weeks...
Ghost Bar at the Palms is interesting, very much a see and be seen type of place, steep cover and a line to get in. It is a rooftop lounge, music varies, but that might be a good place to hang out earlier in the evening like 10pm. Again, not sure if it'll be trance or not. Other places to go earlier are the lounge / bars at the Venetian (you'll have to walk through and see where the people are at) and China Grill is a good place to chill out early or late, they may still have an after hours, too.
Trance seems to be harder and harder to find these days. I think the Utopia saturday should be trancy, but you've already been there.

Sank ya very much! You've been a GREAT help!
Hey... I heard Seven (on the Strip nearl Ballagio) is free cover for EVERYONE, is that true? If so, I think Friday night we'll try it and Sat. night we'll definitely be at Drai's. We'll probably try Cheeta's, as well. Are you sure it's free cover for women? www.lasvegas.com said free cover only til 8pm. How much is it for guys on a Fri or Sat night?

Damn psycoblast, you sure do your homework on this. I've been away from the board from over a year, but even back then you were on top of all this stuff. Thanks for the info. I bummed to hear trance is dying off out there, I'd much rather hear P. VanDyk than P. Diddy.
Renee, are you speaking of the weekend of Oct 25? Me and my crew are heading out that weekend too, my first trip in over a year. Will probably just do something in the Venetian Fri, but Sat is a tough call since there seems like so many options. Will also be their Sunday, but will probably be completely spent by then. Drai's has always been one of my favorite things to do out there, just get there early (as already recommended) and you should be fine. Hope you guys have a blast.
-T

Yeah, Cheetahs is always free for women, and free for guys until 8pm, then it is $10. I think they may not let a woman by herself walk in because they may suspect she is going to be "working" in some capacity in there (I've had single girls ask to walk in with me so they don't get hassled). But 2 or more women should not have a problem.

Yup, TreadHead, we are going Oct 24-27th.
We've decided to go see the Blue Man Group show at the Luxor Friday evening, then may head out to Seven. Sat. it looks like for sure we will be at Drai's (yes, early- 1:00-1:30).
It's my first trip to Vegas since Sept. '01. Can't wait!
Thanks for all the info, ALL!

i know it's kinda early, but myself and a few of my mates are rolling up to vegas for New Years... were gonna go to San Diego, but figured Vegas would be a better place to party... so if anyone familiar with the scene could provide some info on where the place to be is for new years, it'd be greatly appreciated... we're gonna be there 27th-1st ... cool kids 22-24 ...
thanx

OK, just got back from Vegas this morning. Here's my review of the clubs...
We went to Seven Friday evening. Nice patio and couches and huge beanbags. Small crowd. Music was hosted by KissFM. They played a lot of top 40 R&B and hip hop. Got old after a while. Asked the bartender when the trance would come on and he said probably not til 3. We weren't willing to wait that long, so we headed over to Club Utopia just to find out it was also Hip Hop night there as well. Ugh. Talked to the bouncer and he suggested Curve (at the Aladdin) so we headed over there.
Music was decent in the back room. Wasn't crazy about the salsa-ish music playing in the other room. The good room played about half hip hop and half trance. Dance area was small and there were no tables in that area. Crowd started thinning out by 3 and we left around 4.
Saturday night we got to Drai's at 2am (actually I think it ended up being 1am cuz of Daylight Savings). No line, but a good sized crowd was inside. GREAT CLUB! Lots of tables and a decent sized dance floor with great music. Had a BLAST! Crowd there seemed to thin out around 5:30am or so.
Left there around 6:30 am and headed over to Glo. Small crowd at first, but it really picked up. Amazing music! Large dance floor and GREAT lighting! Very dark. Spent most of the time in the VIP Lounge. I think we left around 8:45am or so. I wanted to stay longer, but my friends were getting tired.
Anyway, next time I go to Vegas, Drai's and Glo are a must. I can forget Seven and Curve. It is possible, though, that Seven picked up around 3 and would have been pretty cool (Alesium Afterhours), but we never got around to heading back there.
Last year I went to Utopia and Ra and recommend both, but not over Drai's and Glo.
Well, that's it for my club review.
Ohh... and I also wanted to say that BLUE MAN GROUP kicked some ass! WOW! The show was amazing. I HIGHLY recommend it! I never imagined it would be THAT cool. Was a treat for my eyes and ears!

God I love Vegas!
Five of my buddies, my girlfriend, and myself are going there on Friday (after a long night in Hollywood for Holloween). For people that are new to Vegas, start checkin out the Palms casino to "warm up" at. Ghost Bar and Rain seem to be pretty hot right now. Circle Bar at Hard Rock in also a pretty cool place to get a few drinks before the madness begins. I seem to have "started" my night right by the cigar store many a times. Since Baby's has sucked now for almost two years, you can't stay at Hard Rock past midnight. Drai's is everyones favorite in my group - and it has never disappointed. We will be there! How anyone heard hoe Alesium Afterhours is? Supposidly, the guys who started Drais afterhours left Drais to start Alesium. Whats the scene like there?
After that, we are high tailen it back to LA to see Tiesto at Spundae on Sat night...Ah...the life!

I've heard repeatedly that Alesium is now better than Drai's, but with some of the same flaws (attitude from the bouncers / doormen, for example). I also heard they have a dress code, not sure how tight that is.
For "come as you are" casual after hours, Glo is the place to be. Or for after-after hours after you leave Drai's or Alesium (since Glo goes to noon).

Yeah..Glo has that "I can't believe im here at 10am. I'm such a crackhead" feeling to it! As yes, I've been there after Drai's.
It sad to here that Alesium is having the same problems as Drais. The last time I was at Drais, they seem to have gotten ride of the "thug bouncer" problem. Those guys were gettin a bad name for themselves. I heard they were beating up guys in the kitchen, shaken people down, and whatnot. Also the DEA bust 6 mo. ago was probably a huge bummer (glad i wasnt there).
Anyway, Drais is Drais. I still get that "feeling" when im there that I cant explain. I feel its the 'epitamy' of Vegas (good and bad). How are the DJ lately? I heard Alesium took those too.

VEGAS HERE WE COME! Beachboyty and I, Scott, his boyfriend (newly registered here on the famous bluelight) are headed to Vegas the weekend of November 15th... anyone know of any big events happening then? Of course it is Vegas and is always a party but you never know when something big might be happening!

(New again bluelighter)
Going to Vegas March 4-9. Will Y'all let me know the latest please!!!
Thanks a bunch!

Adding Foundation Room @ Mandalay Bay to the list, go there on a Monday (the only day people without a membership card can go, and the best day to go). They play different music in different areas, the stuff they play is not too impressive, at least for my taste but it's worth going and hanging out. The place is very nice and the view is beautiful. Go around 10 - 11, I believe it ends at 4.

can anyone help me? im going to vegas oct 10-12. i want to go out on sat the 11th. what club plays some good house music without all the tourists? or if anyone knows of any big name djs playing there during that time would be great too :D . thanks...

Well, the good Vegas club info. website, coolvegas.com, has been down for about a year. You can find somewhat current info. at www.vegasafter10.com. I haven't been doing much clubbing in the past year, so I can't really help. I would suggest checking out Tabu, the lounge in the MGM, which is ultraswanky.
