Bupe off subs for 7 days, doc wants me to take vivitrol.. few hours to decide? pros cons?

It's the same thing. The loperamide is usually the store brand version of it, like it will say "compare to active ingredients in Imodium" on the box so you know it's the same thing for less money.

thanx alot man.. i will go get it.. i dont think im going to get the shot.. i dont think it will help.. not sure if ill end up killing myself just yet.. LOL but.. time will tell.. yall have a good one and thanx for the advice.. i have to leave for the rest of the day

Ok. I just wanted to add that if you take the loperamide and then decide to get the vivitrol shot you will have to wait a week before taking it since the loperamide is still technically an opioid.

well I have been taking the loperamide.. the pill version.. it helps my stomach.. but thats about all it helps.. unlses im just not taking enough.. I didnt get the shot.. its been 9 days since I stopped taking the subs and i still feel like crap.. i dont know how much longer this is going to go on.. cause if THIS is normal.. i want to die to be honest.. meaning.. if this is how im SUPPOSED To feel.. and its as good as its going to get.. then thats some bad news

How much loperamide are you taking? 9 days is a long time, but I think I've read about people that have gone 2 weeks with pretty bad w/d symptoms when coming off Subs at medium sized doses like 1-2 mg.

I have not went a day w/out the runs.. thats taking the immodium.. im kinda afriad to keep taking it.. surely ur not supposed to take that stuff for 3 wks.. anyways.. its been really rough.. the only good thing is that work has let me have this time off with family medical leave.. if not.. i dont know if I could have done it.. i have been drinking a lil juice and mostly sprite..but I got some water and I am going to drink the crap out of it.. i feel dehydrated anyone else have any advice?

That is a big dose to jump from, but you came this far to I think things will get better sooner than later. You could've taken more loperamide if it wasn't helping enough, but you would want to taper it down as you went, like in the 14-16 mg range would've been fine and then after 1 week just drop it 2 mg every 3 days. I don't think there is too much of an issue taking 4-6 mg a day for 3 weeks. I know its suggested to not do so on the package. The worst case when stopping is a bit of rebound GI issues, but I'd not worry about that until I got through the Sub w/d and gained enough energy and motivation back.

I appreciate the help and info u guys have given me.. dont think this would have went as good as it has w/out u guys.. still hasnt been smooth sailing.. like u said.. that was a high dose to stop at.. another thing thats happening right now that is sort of embarassign.. is my sex drive is way up.. more than before.. but lets just say.. im very sensitive right now.. i could prolly have sex 3 times before water would start boiling. LOL i read that is normal and will stop after some time? I hope so.. I honestly thought getting off subs would be bad.. but not as bad as it has been.. everyone always says.. its not bad at all coming off subs.. well.. they are full of it.. or everyone is different.. coming off anything in the past.. oxy's methadone and now subs.. subs are the least hard to get off of.. but u still get the classic dt's and sickness.. I never should have went to the doc.. for 3 yrs I only took half a day.. and was fine.. had to go to the doc and get on 2 a day tho.. mainly cause I didnt like buying them off the street.. oh well.. live and u learn.. but how many times do I haev to learn this one lesson? I think im slightly retarded LOL

I've heard this work well for a couple people, but the amount of negative stories I've heard far outnumber the positive ones.

With everything I've heard and the success rate I've seen personally in people I know who've tried it, I'd never get that injection. If something like it in the future that actually works more like they claim this to work as far as taking away the cravings and desire to use (I hear it doesn't in a lot of people), I'd sign up.

I just came from a rehab where they highly advertised vivitrol and tried to push it into every alcoholic and opiate addict, they even stopped putting people on bupe maintenence because they wanted people to take the vivitrol shot so badly, they had a ton of people getting it their. They probably get a pretty big kickback from the makers of it. But here is some info that I learned about vivitrol from the staff at my rehab and people that were getting it. It is a large amount that gets injected into you, and most people reported low to moderate pain for up to a week after the shot due to the huge amount of liquid required. They say it helps with cravings, but this is not entirely true. Everyone I asked that was on it said that the shot itself isn't what helps your cravings, its the fact of just knowing that you can't get high on opiates or any euphoria from alcohol.

Most of them also reported stomach and gastro issues, such as naseua and cramping, as well as Headaches for the first few days after your shot. Some did claim that it did help them with cravings, but I think that is more of a placebo effect than anything, It does nothing but antagonize your opiate receptors and block any other opiates from reaching and binding to them, and alcohol's euphoria comes from the same receptors as most opiates due, the mu-opioid rceptor, so all it does is prevent you from getting high, which can help with your cravings in theory because you know you can't get high. I also heard some other patients that wished they would have never taken the shot and even wasted some opiates and alcohol trying to get break through it, but it worked to no avail. So if you are truly not ready and willing to quit opiates, and are not 100% sure about it yet, I would advise against getting the shot. I hope this information helped.

I didnt get the shot.. just went cold turkey, almost been 3 wks and I still have diarrhea bad.. like.. when the hell will that go away? its been 3 wks!? other than that.. its the fear of going back to work.. which I will do monday, I have never worked a day where I work now, which is 4 years w/out something.. its a factory and its hell.. but I have to work.. and I have to get used to not having anything.. I do smoke weed right now.. and it helps with my stomach issues.. and makes me feel better. But, also, I have no energy.. i just feel dead all the time.. but at the same time.. this 3 wks I have not done awhole lot.. just played bf4 beta on pc and sat around.. i know i should get out and walk or something, but I have no motivation at all.. I am scared that I will go back to something, cause life sober sucks.. lets all be honest LOL but I am TRYING to think positive.. just speaking from my heart and keeping it real. Anyone that is on subs.. if u can afford to stay on them.. do it. if u come off of them.. i wouldnt get the shot.. my doc tried to tell me all these good things.. I said I looked online and seen horrible things. "OH THATS ON FORUMS, some guy from arizona that dont know anything" when I told NO, this was from YOUR website.. he didnt know what to say.. but if u do it like i have, and cold turkey it.. prepare for wks and wks of bullshit.. This is a lesson i have learned now for the third time.. i used to be on oxy.. horrible.. went to methadone to get off oxy.. was on 120 mgs of methadone a day.. when I detoxed off that.. which I took myself down to 5 mgs a day for a month.. then quit.. it was HORRIBLE.. almsot put me in the hospital.. subs arent THAT bad.. but its not great either.. does anyone have any info on what I could do to get some damn energy back? its like my brain doesnt produce pain killers anymore.. or the feel good stuff.. maybe Ill try cutting myself to force it to work LOL jp
