Opioids off methadone in 14 days?

Don't be afraid to detox off of methadone.
It's a lengthy process but it does not warrant any immediate panicking.

Rocketqueen: Vicodin is actually quite helpful with withdraw symptoms even with someone as high as a dose as emarss88.

I was on methadone for 6 years on 125mg a day. Jan 09 I threw the towel in practically cold turkey. With the help of my take-homes, I put myself on a quick taper method. 120mg, then 80 for two days, a disc(40mg) each day after that for 4 days, then a half for 2 days and that was it. Several days passed before I realized that the anxiety I was experiencing was pretty intense so I stocked up on Valerian root, melatonin, and after a month of hydrocodone dabbling (about 40mg a day for about 2 weeks which really helped withdraws), it was ok. Thinking back on it, it wasnt so much hard as it was LONG. the length of stabilizing was the most excruciating part to me.

Good luck!

So many have beat me to it in saying a 14 day detox from that much methadone is going to suck horribly. SWIM has detoxed once from it- SWIM went fast at first, 10mg/week, down to 20mg/day, then started 15 a day, 10, 7.5, 5, etc down to where SWIm was taking a small pinch of a crushed pill (.5-1mg) once a day. This process took 4 months but SWIM was able to work. Aside from this slow taper, SWIM had no support whatsoever - no rehab, support group, nada. It wasn't bad at all tho, just took a long time. Probably helped that SWIM never liked methadone as a get high drug and only took it to prevent H withdraw. Good luck with your detox and recovery!

I am not going to say anymore about the likelihood of failure (or success), I feel it does a disservice to this cat now that he is locked in for 45 days.

@Etaipo, you are an extraordinary individual to kick methadone. Are you still drug free? I do not deny that there are exceptions to every rule, and you are one. If you are drug free...

Even so, it is my belief that the Vicodin is going to do jack shit. I hope he comes out of this and says it was helpful - if so, I will reevaluate my beliefs about using Vicodin for detox. I was given phenobarbital and some kind of muscle relaxer to keep me from jerking. For 11 days. The pheno was tabled down slightly after about nine days. I was 100% comfortable and had NO complaints. I slept well, ate well, and used the bathroom regularly. I realized that some rehab facilities are not looking to "punish" me for getting hooked. Sadly, after twenty years on the 'done I was not prepared for the real world and reality. It is too late for me, but not for others.

Without the methadone, I would likely be dead or somewhere wishing I was.

I think switching to vicodin, letting the done get out of your system, then switching to suboxone is a really good strategy. I hope it works for you.

As fars as PAWS go... exercise a shitload and I promise you, your endorphins will recover so much faster.

^So you have attempted detoxing from a high dose using Vicodin? You would say that is a good strategy based on your experience with methadone detox?

Well believe it or not i did it..
