How do you prove it's a life and death situation?

^^^^ You don't.

The point is that the ISP can share info with a law enforcement agency in the event of a life and death situation.

If you/we are reporting such a situation then the police are obliged to act. but coz the cops don't know a computer from their ass (let alone a IP address) you'd be hard pressed to get luddites like them to act. you gotta serve the fucking thing on a plate to them

Though if you reporting something like this and its bullshit you can get in to trouble (i guess).

Okay,

We received an email from him a few weeks ago applying for the mod position.

Based on the name given in his email from field, I did a search in the Whitepages for that surname in the ACT

There were three matches

On the last one I got his mum. When I told her his username, she recognised it as his email address.

She doesn't know where he is, but I told her what happened and that she needed to find him immediately.

I gave her the URL to his post @ 7.12pm

I did not identify myself to her

I told her others here had tried to contact the police to no avail

I hope she can find him.

My hands are shaking so I can't seem to type quickly

thats such bullshit - there is a username/pass currently authenicated and it has that IP in question... it'll take 10 seconds for someone to look up their radius server and find out who it is and get their accoutn details

fuck it, just call the ISP - tell them some is dying and they need to assist you in obtaining the person details of the user.

Give them the number for the canberra fed police and ask the manager to pass the info the policeman

tell the manager under the telco act in the event of a life and death situation they are allowed under the telco act to provide information.....

explain you don't want it but the police do.

Try and call canberra police - not 000 or ask for 000 to transfer you to the local cbd canberra station. line up the duty officer to be ready to take a call if you can get the ISP to call the coppers....

that way they can call a number they can identify as a local stations number (get the rep to use like whitepages online to confirm the number is valid.

I realise this may be frustrating for you Chuggs, but I am doing everything I can. I have contacted the Police in Canberra and they are also doing everything they can. I have attempted to contact Grapevine but it is a Monday to Friday business as is the Computer Crimes division.

There is only so much we can do with limited information.

oh i mean bullshit as what the cops told you

god i hate our apathetic authories.

if you told em that it was a major coke deal you'd have the fuckers crashing doors down in seconds...

but if its a sucide its "oh we can't do anyhting with the IP"..

Ok i've got half of the CBR BL Crew on this one now. I hope his family can find him soon.
Hopefully his tolerance to the drug he has induced will get him through this safely.

*fingers crossed*

No developments as yet.

The Police have become involved now they have more information to go on.

Hopefully the morning will bring good news.

I have made two calls to 000 (21:25), one to the Ambulance service and the other to the Police service.

The Ambulance service advised that they had no means of tracking IP addresses and to contact the police. After contacting the Police and being transferred to an area that would be able to assist in a matter like this, they advised me that without further information like a date of birth, a name, contact number or address there was not a great deal they could do. They said they would look into it further in the hope of finding something and to provide them with any further information if it came to hand.

That was basically the same response that I got when I called. Frustrating :\

Hoptis, thanks so much for what you've done. Hopefully his family have been able to get in contact...

I have copied what I have written in another thread directly related to what has occured and pasted it below. I feel so strongly about what I have written I would like to share it.

Let's hope that everything works out for the best in this situation.

What I have seen tonight has reaffirmed in my mind what a fantastic community Bluelight is. A member of this board attempted to reach out for help and numerous people not only in Australia, but from around the world attempted to help in any way they could.

If you would like to know what I am speaking about, check the link below;

OD victim in Canberra - need immediate help/call to police

My hat off to everyone who did everything they could to help someone that they did not know.

Words can not start to describe how proud I am to be part of a community like Bluelight. There are some amazing people in this community and I for one am proud to call myself a member.

I'd just like to say to everyone involved~

I am in awe how BL pulled together to help save this guy.
