Occupy Wall Street: your thoughts

The current situation is not a new phenomenon, it's a recurrent theme in the history of capitalism. It's not going to be solved by people clamouring for reforms of the current system. All reforms will do is pacify people until the next crisis. It's good that people recognise injustice and want things to change, but it's not good that they don't have a proper analysis of the injustice, or a proper idea of how things need to change. The best thing that will come from the Occupy movement will be people realising that demanding vague reform will not change things, and that they need to be a bit more serious and less blinkered in their analysis and plan. The alternative is that the current system blunders on, crisis after crisis, leaving a trail of damaged humanity in its wake.

The "99%" need to get properly clued up and take mankind's future into their own hands. The situation we are in, not just you lot over in the US but globally, has been analysed in great depth over many years and ways forward are available. The problem is that when people hear the word communism they think of Stalin's regime, which was not communism. The Soviet Union was not communist. It called itself communist, but it bore no resemblance to the actual ideas of communism. I don't think we're going to make real social progress until people are able to separate the word communism from the failed totalitarian regimes of the 20th century and actually learn about communist ideas, because they are the only ideas that offer a decent future. So I will cross my fingers and hope that either this young generation or the next are able to shake off the prejudices which keep them from moving forward.

seems like the GOV of boston has been quite oppressive on the whole. everything I read about it says thats where its really going down, not on wallstreet. like, boston wont even let you enter their city or some shit. Media blackout on the whole thing. It's not exclusively about corporations anymore, anybody fighting for anything is getting down with this shit. Drug rights activists, Anonymous, gay rights, you name it. anybody and everybody thats got a beef. Don drink and post

nonetheless, I am scared as well as excited to see how this all goes down, as far as police brutality, the videos I have seen show people reaching into backpacks right before they get mugged by the po po, which is a thing that will get you tackled at burning man too. It looks like the backpack thing is a matter of safety for the police, these protests are getting pretty heated, dont get me wrong, I hate the hella corruption that occurs in government and the influence corporations have over us, but you have to understand that there's a root causation behind everything, besides just over-aggressive 'roid cop syndrome. shit we have a lot of them 'ROID cops in SLc if ya ever been to a rave there you know what I mean...

If you tax the rich higher then that will get passed on to us working class. If they tax my boss the owner of the company more then he is gonna raise prices, cut wages and benefits to me. Shit always rolls down hill. I don't have the answers because I'm too busy working my ass off to barely keep my head above water.

Does you boss take home millions/year? I think that the wealthy tax would only really effect people with multi-million dollar/year salaries, in which case it really wouldn't effect anyone but themselves. Most people bosses wouldn't be effected by it. It's more for big corporations.

Dude I remember the last company I worked for, Dominos Pizza. They could WAY afford to pay their workers more, but instead they said "fuck the workers, pay the managers" and ya know what? just as many fuck offs and alcoholics and burnouts were managers as were workers, and they dont know how to manage people for shit. sure, they can manage product, as can I, but good god, all the managers did was bitch about how they just wrecked their latest tuner mobile, it was always about the cool new bullet bike they bought with their bonus. So really? I was pissed. I guess the lesson learned here is 1. fortunes are won and lost overnight 2. to make big money, you need to appeal to the reptilian mind and 3. PLAY HARD PLAY FAST PLAY DIRTY and that is how money is made and life's meant to be lived, the rich, or the people who are not "rich" but spend and make lots of money, that's how they do, they ride the current wave and ditch that bitch at the first sign it's been spent. personally, I think any successful drug dealer spends 99.99% of their time on vacation in exotic parts of the world...

It will affect many small businesses and family's who make over 250,000 a year, not to much money when you have multiple kids and a mortgage. Also, regardless of where the tax raise is introduced, whether to people making 250 grand or millions, the cost will be passed down to the middle class eventually. The only way to get rid of of the national debt and fix the economy is to cut spending and cut taxes. We need serious entitlement program reform (medicare, medicaid, social security), these programs have become unsustainable and are going to bankrupt our country.

I highly doubt that. Most would get caught before they got enough money to do this.

Damn, I didn't realize the amount was that low. Yea man, I know that 250,000 yr isn't much, and that most with that money support their 4 kids, wife, and help out their loser brother.

What? I can tell you first hand that none of the above is true about Boston. That's not the first time I've heard that shit either.

there is a reason behind a lot of the police violence, or people getting arrested. in phoenix they were arresting people for staying in the park past 10:30pm, supposedly the protest organizers there agreed to shut it down at that time. we do have freedom of assembly, but by law we have to have permits and all that jazz. In Salt Lake City, people have been camping in pioneer park for a while, but the crowd there is so small, so no wonder they allow it. the most action the police are getting there seems to be busting occupy campers for smoking marijuana. as for there being no solutions presented, I have a few: bring jobs back to the U.S. from Asia, spend tax dollars more wisely, and punish government corruption harshly. but screw me, I have no degree and I don't understand the true mechanics behind it all, I just know shit's fucked up, and the options I have are 1. mind my own business and be the change I want to see in the world, or 2. shout and wave signs and show up in large groups to try and get the attention and support of politicians in power, or maybe

3. someone will have to develop one beginning objective that involves how we spend our money, which individuals that money goes to, how we spend our time and energies, our labor, and how to wield our collective spending and labor force to bend corporations and government to the will of the people, or at least make them obsolete. Maybe organizing farms is a good start, where people get paid what we can afford to pay them, or the farm operates like a kibbutz, the point being to give people something to do, make more food for everyone, and eliminate our reliance on for-profit entities. All you really need is food, shelter, water, and something to do all day, people have done it for thousands of years. call me crazy but I am happiest when I am outside or doing physical labor that matters.

The above idea could potentially just turn into an American feudal system, where we work our asses off for food while the upper crust just lives even more lavishly as a result.

The way the govt. gets away with giving the rich (the 1% ) tax cuts is by telling us (the 99% ) that if the millionaires save more money, they're the entrepreneurs and investors, so they'll invest more money, open new locations, hire new employees and give existing ones raises. In reality they pocket the cash and continue with their lavish and over-the-top lifestyles.

This is only a small piece of the puzzle, but it can make a big difference on our economy

You don't want to pick a fight with MemphisX3, Reckless, he can get crazy. Also, the language? Your mother taught you to be more creative than that.

Who do you think you are you motherfucker? I completely disagree with all of your beliefs on this topic and think that everything you do is completely wrong and I can not be persuaded otherwise.

(Just lining one up for you, go crazy. have a blast)

HOW ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH CAN YOU DISAGREE WITH A MAN THAT IS OBVISOULY MUCH MORE INELLIGENT THAN YOURSELF

you my friend are on a safari in the land of "dumb fuck" you need to contain your excitement and ask your guide to return you to reality. i cant even fathom how you made it past your teens, surely natural selection hasnt fucked up that bad. you remind me of a 6 legged ostrich trying to ride a unicycle...and what i mean by that is....YOU JUST LOOK REALLY STUPID.

The safari was a nice touch. Back on topic is there anyone here that has been at any of the rallys? What was your impression?

walked by a small one in Denton, TX the other day, first time it was like a dozen or so people just chillin talkin, then today they were given out free tacos and there were more people but i didnt stop for the tacos cuz the adderal makes me not hungry.

and in general my anxiety sometimes prevents me from just walkin up to people n talkin to em

my impression is that it seems like at the very least it'd be fun, i didnt talk to anyone there so i cant give much more opinion then that
