Occupy Wall Street: your thoughts

Back on topic is there anyone here that has been at any of the rallys? What was your impression?

I've been attending the ones in NYC, they've been giving free food out there, but I try to save it for the people who are actually living in the parks...I have a house and extra cash

It's a chill scene. Other than what I mentioned in my OP, there are drum circles, meditation circles. I was 5 feet away from kanye west nd Russell simmons (but they're bitches and left after 5 minutes). If any of you guys know who immortal technique is he was there protesting I got to chill with him for a little.

There's people from all walks of life. People from Australia and the uk here to support. There's businessmen in suits, parents with their kids, gays, skaters, punks blacks construction workers Asians indians bums all walks of life, all these people who normally would never interact are all working together for a common goal.

However for everyone supporting the cause there's a good amount of people who are there to support their own cause, and use OWS as a way to be heard. I heard people talking about black's civil rights, the FDA working with pharmaceutical companies, others complaining about how we use too much oil...it's easy for people to discredit the movement saying no one knows what they want and it's just everyone getting high...which there wasnt much of, I only saw bud being passed around twice these past few weeks

It is a great thing to see people engaged in demonstration, but there is a lack of direction and fortitude in the endeavor. What are they hoping to accomplish, what is the grand plan. There are numerous posts above the posit the same questions and there is true focus on change of just anger at what currently exists. It is unfortunate that things are still very tough out there and the anger on both sides is depressing to me. The only way things change is through compromise or crisis - neither of which will occur here. There is a great disparity in this country as the income inequality index continues to grow which often leads to strife at some point. It varies by country, but it will happen if it continues. I wish the attitude of equal sacrifice, compromise and engagement was shared by my fellow Americans - but it is not, at least not right now. Perhaps this movement is a stepping stone to get there and to that effect I give them my full support. Even if it is just an illustration of frustration, it is good to see that people are engaging.

While the idea and cause these people are protesting for is a noble one them movement is becoming to large and it is straying from the message. I work lower manhattan and have been stationed at zuccati park themlast couple weeks and the park is a hooverville. All the crazy people/homeless of new york are
Going there, stealing, fights, and drug use is growing rampant and not for nothing alot of the protestors are mad they cant get jobs with the companies there protesting against. I've also talked to alot of the kids down there that lead a privleged life and they led those lifes because their parents were thosemgreedy bankers. I know theresmis alot more to it but that is my first hand observation. Nothing in life is handed to you, you have to go out there and get it.
