OC Question

Just relating a very odd experience I have with OxyContin to see if anyone else has experienced something similar...

I am in the habit of taking Percosets, and I have been for almost a year and a half. I take at very least 15mg a day, and at times up to 50-60mg. If I dont take at least 10mg a day, I start to feel pretty unpleasant, as you can probably imagine..

Recently, I obtained a handful of OxyContin 40mg's. A couple of days ago, I split one into quarters (using a milligram scale), and crushed and ate it in a gelcap.
In the first half hour or so, I felt familiarly good, and after about 45 minutes I began to feel dizzy and somewhat nauseous.. I remained dizzy for around 4 hours, which is the average length of an opiate high for me..
I repeated this again yesterday, again with 10 milligrams.. Again, I became dizzy and unable to function normally.

Why on earth is this? I am used to taking far more oxycodone daily than would be contained in an entire 40mg pill, muchless 1/4 of it, and then functioning normally at work.. What could it possibly be that makes me feel so incapacitated after only 10mg worth of OxyContin?

If anyone has had similar experiences, or know why this may be, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I sure would like to be able to enjoy the rest of these without feeling ill :(

Maybe the fact that you are crushing up the OC into a pure powder makes it hit harder than taking a percocet and waiting for it to dissolve. Yes, I know percs are not time-released like OCs are, but crushing up a pill will get it into your system faster. Even so, however, sounds like you already have enough of a tolerance whereas 10mg oxycodone wouldn't fuck you up. I dunno.

The same had crossed my mind, but the feeling was actually more of dizziness than it was of opiate intoxication..

It didnt feel like I had taken too much oxycodone.. I wasnt heavily intoxicated, nor did it have any of the other symptoms of high-dose opiates like itching or warmth.. It just felt like a low dose of oxycodone plus a lot of unwanted dizziness...

Somebody suggested that Purdue had started using measures to make users sick if they crushed the pills, but I'm sure everyone would have heard a lot more about this if it were true..

Thanks for the idea though.

my advise, quit using oxycontin while you're ahead...

Oxy is the devil

such a love/hate relationship:( :)

man i dont know but ive been binging on some oc for a little while now......and normaly i do 20mg or so a time snorted, and i get a nice dopey buzz, no dizzyness or stomach ache, nice warm itchy feeling.

but today i snort 10mg and i got extremely warm/itchy, and puked my brains out.......i never puke on oxy, wtf gives....

Vico: Little to late to avoid the oxycodone habit.. I was just more curious as to why this form would effect me so much differently than what I'm used to.

im not sure if this could have anything to do with it, but the oxy's dont contain any apap (aspirin), maybe u arent used to feeling the opiate high without the feelings from the aspirin.

if your using a mg scale to measure doses make sure your accounting for thebinderrs and such but im sure oyu know this ......and kalt if oyu take an 0c10 crush it up and take 2 percs it will hit you the same.

With the scale, I measured the pill as a whole first, and then divided into quarters. If I hadn't accounted for the binders and fillers, and just measured out 10mg, I wouldn't have even taken enough to be active in any way.

I believe each quarter of the pill ended up measuring out to around 35mg, binders and all, so the whole thing was a total of around 150.

I understand that crushing it increases the peak levels in your blood, but we're still only talking about 10mg of oxycodone. I've consumed 1600mg fentanyl pops in 15 minutes and not had the levels of dizziness that I did off of this. Also, intoxication was not markedly increased - only side effects. The opiate 'buzz' was fairly similiar to that of 3-or-so percocets, other than the significant increase in side effects.
If I wasnt in the habit of consuming opiates daily, I wouldnt be quick to shoot this theory down at all, but the contrast to other experiences I've had with similar substances and doses is too stark, and it seems as if something else was amiss. What that might be however, I have no clue.

Maybe you are allergic to a binder in the pill?? Maybe it is an unrelated health problem that ironically showed up at the same time..

I would suggest a whole 20, as maybe crushing has something to do with this.. A whole 20 gives the 10mg high for twice as long, but then it may give the dizziness for longer too.

Correction: 1600 mcg
My mistake :)

I dont think 1600mg would be all that painful. I think it would be rather instantanous death. Probably never know what hit you.

1.6mg is still a much heftier dose than 10mg of oxy

yes it could be the binder or some inactive ingredient. Kadian pills make me violently ill, whereas ms contin (or any other form of morphine for that matter) are just fine (fine being an understatement).

That's another possibility I checked into.
On Purdue's website they list the only two ingredients in OxyContin as Oxycodone Hydrochloride and Polysorbate 80 (a binder which is commonly used in prescription pills, most notably in Ambien, which I was prescribed with no ill effects for over a year.)
Appreciate all the feedback though. I'm not disinclined to repeat the experiment, possibly with 5mg instead of 10, since it was by no means life threatening or even unbearably unpleasant. Just extremely unusual.

Also, after 2 days of only taking 10mg of the crushed powder, I'm experiencing some nasty withdrawal symptoms from my usual higher dose of oxycodone.
I havent taken any additional percocets on the 2 days I've taken the oxycontin, mostly because I felt too ill to eat, let alone take more pills.
Woke up this morning with chills, tremors, and general GI unpleasantness.

Looks like the general consensus is that OCs really dont do the trick for me overall. Guess I'm going to be sticking to fouling my liver with percocets. :|

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions though.

Its the same drug in Percocet as in Oxycontin so do you think its some sort of placebo ill-effect? Like you are anxious because you didn't take your perco's for the day? Not criticisng, just trying to help.

I used to eat percocet all the time before Oxycontin was available. Now I won't eat anything but Oxycontin or IR Oxycodone.

Nah, wasnt particularly anxious beforehand. I had actually thought the same thing, so the second day I took a percoset beforehand, just to eliminate the variable in the situation. Still the same situation.
Most people have recommended I just eat the whole pill, but if it is indeed a reaction to something in the pill, I'd rather not experience that dizziness for the full 10-12 hours, as opposed to the 4-6 hours from crushing it.
