Obtaining a Job With Gauged Ears

Bobbie, it all comes down to what you want. Whatever choice you make, make sure its in your best interest.

Why do people even want to do that to their ears? It looks super disgusting. Almost as gross as people getting their napes pierced and the inside of their gums pierced.

Why do people get plastic surgeory?

Why does anyone do anything?

Most likely because they share a differing opinion to yours, and do it for themselves and no one else.

And to whoever said that gauging your lobes 'hurts' is misinformed. If your ears hurt at any point, your obviously stretching to fast and are going damage your lobes.

I'm going to find a the proper stretching faq (works for all piercings, not just ears) and report back. Typically a size a month is the proper way to go, using bondage tape. If your ears hurt, your jumping sizes and need to downsize. :)

I am a fan of this type of body modification on some people. I wouldn't be able to pull anything like this off nor am I interested in trying, but it's a form of expression and that's cool.

If/when I have employees, I would insist that any employees in a public contact role wear flesh colored plugs at work and take out any facial piercings. And I am much more lax than anyone I have ever worked for with one exception - I saw visible tattoos/tanktops at one law firm. No way would facial piercings ever go over in a super conservative environment like the firms I've spent most of my career. I have seen someone fired who got a nose piercing (small) and refused to take it out.

I wouldn't discriminate against anyone for having body mods. The clients I may have someday very well might. I prefer a middle ground with situations like this; if an employee has enough confidence in me as an employer and can do the job well, I see no reason to interfere with how they choose to express themselves as long as they do so discreetly while on the job.

Ive got 3/4 inch ears and have worked in heaps of different spots as a teenager, from being a barista to being a teachers aide for small kids to working as an unqualified cook.

Realistically some places wont have you if you have peircings, and thats totally fine, if thats the way they want it then there is nothing you can do about it.

What you have to realise is that if you take this route, you need to show up to job interviews and be able to show people that regardless of your unusual appearance that you are the best person for the job, you need to be energetic, personable and friendly, demonstrating that you want to work and that you quirkyness will be an asset rather than an obstacle.

these days heaps of people have heavily stretched ears and its not uncommon to see professionals with them ( Hell i worked in a silver service resturant with 15mm lobes)

another point is that if you go and get a degree in something then generally your appearance shouldn't matter, rather you degree and personality should carry you through.

how old are you?
what do you want to be?
always consider the future when permantely changing your body

Do whatever you want. Not sure if I would do that much of it. Perhaps just as big but only one on each lobe? Maybe do the one in each ear and see how you feel. You might get tired of people scowling at you lol. I have wimpy 0's and nobody can even tell. In fact, I get tons of compliments.

Job-wise...if you plan on working with people at all, forget about it. You will never get a job. Do not work in music unless you want to do something like lighting/projections or sound design. Do not do production. My SO's dad works as a sound engineer and he doesn't work for months at a time. Perhaps you would like to do something creative? I was working in theatre and nobody seemed to really care what you looked like. In fact, I wish they would have cared more. As for computers, SO is a programmer and he could wear whatever and pretty much look like anything at work.

Don't get gauges, mines are up to 5/8ths and can't find a fucking job. The only person I know who has a job with 5/8ths work at fucking 7Eleven lmao. Still.
It's addicting. I thought 00 looked big, a week later I looked in the mirror and they looked SMALL! It really is addicting.

Are we talking about careers or like small time jobs?

Ever thought that maybe the reason you cant get a job is that your a retard and your ears are just a good excuse

I live in a small city and my ears have never been a problem (taht being said I only apply for work that I think would allow me to, Ie: independent buisnesses not big corporations)
