i wasn't sure what else to title this thread to illicit the correct response, so i'll elaborate.

what thing(s), insignificant or overlooked by others, do you obsess over or just thoroughly enjoy?

for instance, i LOVE small weighty items such as a heavy but compact or sleek cell phone. microsoft zune boxes (they're so heavy for their size). zebra pens. an old metal owl figurine (not sure what kind of metal) that i remember my mom owning when i was a child.

i'll think of more things over time. :)
 
^ I totally hear ya' about small weighty items. Gadgets get advertised as "lightweight" - NO, I actually think they're cooler when heavier!

As for me, I obsess about glass vessels (flasks, bottles, cups, jars...etc) and have a seizable collection.

I also am into gemology and have a good collection of gemstones as well. That said, I collect a lot of random nice-looking stones whenever I walk outside.

I also obsess about birds, and I simply have to point birds out to whatever company I happen to have.

I had to think about this a fair bit because I am a rather obsessive creature in general, and by the nature of obsessions, one wouldn't necessarily be aware that what they do is odd...if you get what I'm saying.

But I am obsessed with the feel of different types of materials. Prime example: my boyfriend and I will be walking through a shopping centre and I'll spy something interesting in a stand outside a shop, I will not be able to stop myself from walking over to it and picking up the object and feeling its texture. It might be a greeting card with ribbon or felt or sequins on it or something like that, or a scarf, or a soft toy etc.

Another more illustrative example would be whenever I have to buy some fabric to make/repair clothes. I will spend at least an hour in the fabric shop just walking around feeling all the different types of material, then do another lap of the shop to feel and compare all the different fabric again. Me in a fabric shop is like a kid in a candy store <3

I am also completely and utterly obsessed with my nails. This isn't so odd, being female and all. But I am constantly filing them, painting them, buying new nail polish etc etc. They always have to be in absolute pristine condition.

Oh, and I also absolutely adore catalogues :D
Any type of catalogue at all.
 
I keep hotel keys, i have them from cyprus, lebanon, england, united states all over the east coast
 
I dont know if I would consider it an obsession but I have a huge collection of Crystals, minerals, and stones and that type of stuff. I have always dreamed of going on an extended vacation, hunting, buying, going to mines, and getting some big chunks of raw tourmalines, beryls, sapphires, garnets gem stone quality. I love that kinda stuff.

it sounds so calming, if its warm if feels pure goodness, and theres a few amazing trance songs that have water in them as music... hard to explain but when hallucinating is the most orgasmic thing ever to listen to. when im underwater i feel safe and calm and in my own world. i have like the opposite of the fear of drowning. poorly written i know, damn psychedelics, ill have more to say later.
 
economy of effort and design simplicity and optimization...I like things that are not going to excess difficulty to do something, and that make the most of their design features.

for example, some car commerical here (I forget which, one of the US makers) is advertising a 355 horsepower twin turbo engine in an suv/cross over that has at least a 6cyc if not an 8.

WTF!?! you need a complex twin turbo to pull a figure like 355 from a large 6 or small 8? was the engineering team baked? if it was a small inline 4, I can see it. but i think it was pointless, expensive, overly complex way to make their product. I hate that kind of shit. Its just more stuff to be maintained and break for no actual reason. like a physical incarnation of windows vista.

i obsess over having things make the maximum effect of the resources and work put into them.
 
I have a healthy apperciation of paper cutting art and to a lesser extent stencils.

Interesting, I'm a very visually tactile person. What does that mean?

I look at things and I feel them without touching them, then if I were to touch it, it feels the same way it did when I looked at it. I don't mean I look at something and I think know how it will feel.
I look at it, and I know.

Rather odd to explain.

I don't obsess over it, but I adore the sound of ice cracking in water. I also love the chinking sound it makes as it hits the side of the glass and other pieces of ice. :)

CotB, i share your ice cracking in water thing... i drink so much ice water a day and if i'm at a friends house who doesn't have an ice maker or anything, i find it hard to cope with! i almost can't drink water without ice. though i suppose that's MORE because i want my water as cold as possible than anything, the cracking is just like an added bonus.

and busty... awesome stuff! i assume, that being an obsession of yours, i don't have to tell you about swoon? if you haven't seen her stuff, you should check it out, she's one of my favorite graffiti-ish artists!

oh and another one of mine, kind of along a similar rail as rangrz's... i can't stand when advertising shortens phrases to save space and or money. like a seasonal business that has a sign outside that says "closed for season." the omission of the word "the" bothers me to no end!
 
I am very anal about my music CD's. I obsess about keeping them scratch free(even burned ones) to the point that I never let anyone borrow them anymore. I also am a freak about playing air guitar to get me pumped up....in pretty much any situation. It's funny when someone catches you playing air guitar in the elevator to "Cherub Rock". They are thinking "What a tool!" lol.
 
I'm obsessed with smells. I literally have a shrine in my room where I keep my oil diffusers, burners, and all my different essential oils .... Everything in my daily life has a particular smell attached to it, and I am very particular about how my sheets should smell, my towels, my bathroom, myself everyday, hahahahahahaha. =D
Everybody always asks me why I smell so good and when I tell them its just baby cologne, they dont believe me ! :D
 
Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band concerts. I have listened to approx. 500 shows and there are hundreds of more waiting for my ears. I am a frequent poster at a forum where that's all we talk about.
 
I thrive on the absence of clutter. I like organization and order.
I don't have strong attachments to material items.
I don't collect anything. I am apt to throw something out than keep it.

Manners and etiquette are important to me.
 
I love sticks. :)

Don't ask me why, but for a very long time I'd go on afternoon walks with them to think, swishing them from side to side through the grass and leaves. Even today I can salivate over a stick that's just the right length and heft, with few if any side branches. Just holding them is calming in a way I can't possibly describe...

For intangible things: I thrive on trivia.
