In an interview with Canadian news magazine Maclean’s last week, Gil Kerlikowske, President Obama’s Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, stated that despite recreational legalization in Washington and Colorado, they would still go after distributors and growers in both states.

"You’ll continue to see enforcement against distributors and large-scale growers as the Justice Department has outlined. They will use their limited resources on those groups and not on going after individual users," said Kerlikowske, who is also a former Seattle Police Chief.

In an interview with ABC News, soon after the November legalizations in Washington and Colorado, President Obama said, "We've got bigger fish to fry. It would not make sense for us to see a top priority as going after recreational users in states that have determined that it’s legal."

It is likely President Obama chose his words carefully by only mentioning individual users and not distributors or growers, despite many being led to believe there would be no federal interference at all within the two states.

Back when running for president in 2008, Barack Obama stated that medical marijuana was an issue for state governments, not the federal government. "I'm not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue," he said, promising to end raids on medical marijuana dispensaries seen under the Bush Administration. Many soon learned his real intentions when the DEA raided four times as many marijuana dispensaries as Bush, in half the time.

So according to these statements if you are growing any plants at all, they'll use their resources to bust you if they find out about it. Same goes if you are distributing to your family and friends for free, right?

Whatever they say is not to be taken as gospel anyway, as history would tell us.

I called it!

It might be legalized but the federal government will still trample over states rights again and again. I called this so long ago.

%) I'm going to pack some more of my medical marijuana now, sorry to hear the feds are going to ruin it for Washington and Colorado though.

^ It's not "ruined" per say... it's just not as big of a win as everyone made it out to be.

We still have medicinal marijuana too lmao, but we also have the added benefit of the Seattle Police force declaring they will no longer arrest people for marijuana charges. If someone was growing 1000+ plants and selling kilos a day, yeah they would be prosecuted.. but we don't have kids being thrown in jail for a blunt like in Cali

What's the point in state laws if the PoS government can still do this shit? This is going too far! I can't wait to see the fight between the feds and my state, hopefully this will spark the "Cascadia" movement even more now.

^ Oh man oh man
If WA, OR, and Norcal were a country, It'd be so cool! (add BC/Victoria/Vancouver for even greater effect)
I would happily live there.

IIRC the movement is still under works and being talked about amongst the people here. It's definitely a possibility, and this thread is one of the many reasons why its being suggested. They're tired of the government doing shit like this.

The Republic of Cascadia would almost be a Utopia. Not to mention we'd be very very wealthy, since we have the pacific trade route and a massive amount of resources. =D
