An analysis from pro-medical marijuana group Americans For Safe Access found that President Barack Obama's administration has spent nearly $300 million on combatting medical marijuana in states that have legalized the drug.

The report calculates the total amount of federal spending on medical marijuana intervention at $289 million over Obama's four-and-a-half years in the White House. According to the analysis, the Drug Enforcement Administration alone spent 4 percent of its budget in 2011 and 2012 cracking down on medical marijuana across 20 states. Taken as a whole, Obama's participation makes up the majority of what ASA says is a $483 million war of lawsuits, indictments and asset forfeiture attempts waged by the Department of Justice under the past three presidents.

I still maintain that the continual election of leftish presidents keeps the left artificially pacified. Without the threat of popular unrest, they can just steamroll our freedoms with impunity. No serious challenge will emerge to the status quo.

Yet he lowered the penalties on crack cocaine. :?

What are you saying though? Are you saying that the penalties for crack needed to be kept high?

Also, crack used to be 100 times as illegal as the salt. Now it's just 18 times as illegal. Why do they even have different punishments? It's the same substance.

Obama is one of the biggest disappointments in the history of the US. He's right up there with The Phantom Menace.

^I wonder if even one life has been saved by having the penalties crack so high, or if any of the mandatory minimum drug laws have saved lives...Seems to me, all it's done it result in longer prison sentences....Maybe it's deterred some people...Actually, it's probably deterred a lot of people in some areas...If you could only get say...3 years for any drug trafficking offense, a lot of people might try rolling the dice for all the cash there is to be made...but still, I think the mandatory minimums suck....

I don't think its deterred anyone. For every person that goes to prison for selling drugs, there will always be someone to take their place. As long as there is enough demand, there will be a supply. People still traffic in countries where the penalty is death.

^Yeah I agree, it may deter some people, but I don't think it stops the flow of drugs overall at all!

I myself am deterred! the amount of trouble I could get into is a big enough incentive for me to not mule drugs over the border!

^sorry, I should've realized what you were getting at. We've had so many crazy opinions on this board lately that nothing really surprises me any more.

Obama is black. The huge discrepancy between cocaine and crack is/was largely thought of as a racially motivated policy.

Big Alcohol and Big Tobacco must be lobbying hard against marijuana because it seems like the majority of people are prolegalization nowadays.

^The only reason "Big Tobacco" or "big Alcohol" would have for lobbying against marijuana is if they thought it would cut into their profits....which, I have a hard time believing that it actually it would...

A joint is no substitute for a cigarette or a drink, it's a completely different thing! Although I'm pretty sure "Big alcohol" and "big tobacco" do lobby against marijuana legalization.....

Anyone who can say with a straight face that they think alcohol is safer than marijuana deserves an Oscar!

^ I Kind of disagree with you, I am an alcoholic who is in the process of reducing my alcohol consumption, cannabis has been immensely helpful in helping me to achieve this. I have been a daily cannabis smoker throughout most of my alcoholism but I just feel the relaxation cannabis gives me, as well as the ability to sleep, has been helpful in reducing my need to drink.

I think that weekend social lives are never going to be focused around cannabis the way they are focused around alcohol, and alcohol doesn't have to worry about becoming irrelevant. I do think that for personal relaxation some people might swap the 6 pack for a joint and I think at smaller parties and gatherings cannabis consumption will increase a little, which wont end alcohol consumption at these gatherings but likely reduce it.

Instead of saying that Obama has spent that $300 million, let's word it more carefully, and be careful to put emphasis where it belongs:

Obama has funneled $300 million into the Police, FDA, and Prison Industry via his attacks on MEDICAL marijuana suppliers and patients

Obama is one of the biggest disappointments in the history of the US. He's right up there with The Phantom Menace.

I couldn't agree more. He could have done anything, and all he did was to sit down and follow the same old policies.
A special hell waits for those who squander such immense opportunity to better people's lives.

^I think people have proven that they're lazy enough that most people would probably still just buy weed, even if it was legalized on all fronts....Just my personal observation..could be wrong

In the event that it was ever legalised in the UK, I'd probably start out by buying pre-packed from an available outlet initially, whilst saving for equipment for growing my own down the stretch. Others would be more than content just going to their local. They'll never get the satisfaction of the end result of a labour of love.
