NZ - 'Revolutionary' legal high law means state regulated drug market

I wonder if this new system will only cover recently outlawed legal highs or if it also pertains to the drugs that the legal highs were replacing due to bans. There's already plenty of clinical data on MDMA, psilocybin and LSD.

Why dont they just legalise pot, market it, sell it and start making shit loads in tax?

I think the reason "they" continue to make the drug marijuana illegal is, in fact, because of the amount of spelling mistakes that are made while high on said chemical.

Please note sarcasm. Please do not get upset. This is meant as humor. Please kindly love one another and continue to have fun at the expense of other people. After all, that is funny. Is it not? <3:sus:<3

Sounds fucked up to me, legalize toxic synthetic cannabinoids , but keep safe natural real cannabis illegal?

IMO this might just have been created for the sheer purpose of showing how terrible these synth. drugs CAN be, so that they can test the illegal drugs in the future to prove they arent as harmful... I know it might just be me dreaming

I think its a publicity stunt to,
"prove that legalization fails"
Andthen say,
"see, that is why we make this stuff illegal, its dangerous!"

legal high manufacturers will have to pay to have their substance proved "low risk"

Havent people been proving that cannabis is low risk for years now? If one of these manufacturers pay to prove that shouldnt that then make it also legal?

Also, isnt the legal high mdma much more dangerous than pure mdma???

Im glad it seems that governments are finally starting to open their minds and be realistic about "low risk" drugs but they still have a lot of logic to learn.

I feel like this is a step in the wrong direction. I'm all for more RC's. As was said earlier, maybe they'll find that magic pill w/ the perfect high and no cognitive or motor-control impairments. But I doubt that. I seriously doubt that. As humans we have been experimenting with plants and mixtures of plants and powders and crystals etc since before biblical times. I just find it hard to believe that a new miracle [recreational] drug is out there. There is NO form of opiate that will ever give you want you want w/o being mind-fucking-addicting. There is no safe form of Ecstasy (I have used E many times, but ya'll gotta admit that shit is NOT good for you). We all use these drugs at our own risks.

I hate prohibition. It just flat out doesn't work (Besides being flat-out un-Constitutional, at least in the U.S.). It drives prices up and puts the profits of rec drugs into the wrong hands. But as far as I'm concerned that's the GOVTs problem until they get off their collective asses and open a fucking history book. I just (personally) make sure not to do drugs that came from slave labor.

Give me real Benzos, don't give me that etizolam shit (that stuff FUCKED my benzo tolerance, and the rebound insomnia/anxiety is worse than what I dealt with before).

Give me real Marijuana, not that JWH4842-Whatever-Shit. Real marijuana has been proven to be *extremely* "low" risk. These new fake cannas have NOT.

Give me real Ketamine, not that DXE shit they try to say is safer when everybody who has ever used it knows it's not.

Anybody remember how Morphine was supposed to be a less addicting alternative to Opium? Or how Heroin was supposed to be a more powerful less addicting substance than Morphine? Anybody here ever come off a year long heroin binge? I have. What about a year long OC binge? I have. And let me tell you, coming off a 160mg/day OC habit is MUCH worse than coming off a gram a day H habit.

These artificial drugs are no bueno. I'm not saying I'm better than them, or better than drugs. I take over 150mgs of methadone a day, and benzos at least a couple times a week (at least those are for medical reasons). I'm a full blown addict. And the thought of all these new drugs scares me.

Anybody familiar with Bathsalts? Fuck man, that shit is straight out of Max Payne. People seeing demons and angels and shit.

Bottom line. There will be no new flood of "safe" legal highs in NZ. They know this, we know this. The best shot any nation has at correcting their drug problem is to *gasp* legalize everything (but meth, fuck you meth heads) and heavily regulate it *their*own*damn*selves!

i feel like this is a giant step in the wrong direction wasting millions of dollars into a synthetic cannabis markets that causes overdoses, deaths, severe psychosis, and other adverse side effects. i mean the least they could do is put CBD or some other well tolerated anti-psychotic into the blends and/or use synthetic cannabinoid partial agonists as jwh-073 was actually a very decent RC with a tolerated dose range verus some am-2201 or jwh-122 crazy shit.
the only reasons these chemcials are even on the market is the take the place of a much safer and more benign chemical that has been outlawed by the government. i mean its been said a 1000 times before why the fuck are you putting all these increadibly new dangerous chemicals out there when there are generally much safer ones that have been used (by at least some) responsibly) for a good time now
other factors to be taken into account should be polydrug useage e.g. hows it gunna mix when combined with alcohol or other drugs and long term adverse effects.............oh wait thats right
theres no way of knowing that because some of these were invented a week ago

i think its better research chemicals are legal rather than illegal drugs that are safe. The latter is just too good compared to the first

I use synthetic cannabis blends, and although I prefer natural cannabis buds, I do think that synthetics provide a decent alternative. It's much safer in terms of the people you deal with and is often more convenient. I would prefer a legal regulated supply of natural MJ, and I think NZ is a country that could pull of legalisation reasonably well. I definitely think synths are a step in the right direction.

@poodles
They have already tried to use THC for it's medicinal properties sold as "Marinol"
But Cannabis plants have over 400 chemicals in them, with over 70 being Cannabinoids, so trying to pinpoint which parts of the plant give the different pro's and con's is very difficult. Especially until it's legal aspects clear up so it is easier to do research with.

Also why do you have a problem with synthetic cannabinoids? There are lots of cannabinoid receptors throughout the human body, and evidence suggests that they may be the key to helping lots of people with various disease and illness's

This seems to be a very 'adult' approach to drugs and about time. Drug users will get a pure product at hopefully a fair price and it will be taxed, everyones a winner.
Op's suggestion that some of the illegal but mostly harmless drugs should then be re evaluated is a valid point

This is a fantastic idea.

Will it go through? It would be absolutely enormous if it did. The first open air drug market in the world! And plus we can finally find out the best synths, and find which ones are the most safe. Unbelievable.

Why do people keep asking "WHY NOT LEGALIZE WEED instead of this SHIT?"
Answer: it's impossible to legalize weed at this point because of politics in New Zealand, and the amount of money invested in criminalization

You know how to get rid of dangerous drugs... legalize all of them and the market will choose the safe and effective ones...

Then you can also regulate purity and potency and dosage recommendations and people wouldnt be afraid to seek professional assistance in overdose and adverse reaction cases... the criminal market would dry up and blow away along with the majority of the rc market that turns out below standard product that can be compared side by side to proper stuff ;)

First of all that high everybody wants... is never safe to drive on.... second of all I've been into synthetic drugs for about a year now and let me tell you that it is absolutely amazing but shorter lasting than the real thing... at least thats true for marijuana and meth synthetics... I think that within the next five years synthetic drugs will be the big thing everywhere (they already are where I'm from) and they will eventually be better than the real thing

yes i think it makes far more sense to simply legalise cannabis :?

if you want a less paranoia inducing CBD-THC ratio, just make it so only sunlit, low-stressed cannabis plants, can be grown and sold. NZ has enough sunlight for it

also: what Thou said

and what atara said about AL-LAD, this sounds massively appealing

here's an idea - what if the people who are making the laws for these drugs, have to take them ? as in - it's part of their contract, and they agree to do this before introducing legislation, and even before even being given their work opportunity ? i think that would be fair

if animal testing must be done, leave it to the rats, they generally have a lower level of understanding of what's going on around them. rabbits and monkeys, for instance, i think would feel far far higher levels of distress in a dangerous experiment situation, and i think it to be quite evil, to test on them

The system finally figured out how much money was in this market and how, now, since they spent just as much money, if not more, playing cat and mouse with the chemists and realizing how well they (the RC industries) play the game, how many steps ahead in the game they are, and concluding that it is a lost cause, they want that money. When they (the Government) take over, the product will be weak, the price will be double, and the taxes will come rolling in.

To everybody who says why not just legalize weed, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Convention_on_Narcotic_Drugs_of_1961 , among other treaties . It bans any recreational use of cannabis. New Zealand and basically every nation signed and ratified the treaty. Which is why I think the legalization movement need to think globally too, not just states/counties/cities.

I think it was Hairy Asslicker's, I mean Harry Anslinger's(Rot In Piss:X), parting gift to the world before he left the Bureau of Narcotics. Really he was probably the second most powerful US bureaucrat after J. Edgar Hoover.

Some of those synthetic cannabinoids are pretty damn good. I know many who say they're good drugs in their own right, not just a weed replacement. Still it should not be treat like it's weed, don't abuse it.

If I'm buying spice I'd like to know what's in it and how much. It's better then guessing and hoping the makers don't put some toxic shit or make it too strong.

I think N2O would be a good candidate for an approved legal high.
