Some of our family friends are doctors, and during a discussion on ecstacy tonight, they told me that experiencing nystagmus (eye wobbles) while taking ecstacy is actually a mild symptom of a stroke... funnily enough, i find that eye wobbles and the total uncordination of it all very funny when i'm on pills =D

Just wondering whether there was any truth in this at all, or whether they were trying to get the whole "don't do drugs kids" message across (of coure not knowing that i do them).
 
Once a psychiatrist bullshitted about the long term effects of LSD. 5 cent piece taken out of the brain every time you had LSD!!
 
If you have a read through of the literature the high produced from MDMA can be technically classed as a mild, temporary serotonin syndrome, and nystagmus is a symptom of that.

Nystagmus is also associated with nausea -- if you're feeling like you're about to puke, you may get it, though no-one is entirely sure why.

Some poor people have it their entire lives, as a congenital condition =\ That would be horrid...
 
I've eye wobbled about 10 times unconsciously this morning.

Ah, thankyou Cowboy Mac. I read through erowid but the only thing i saw on nystagmus was it was under 'neutral' side effects of MDMA/MDA. As long as i'm not having mini strokes every time i pop a pill...

nausea and eye wobbles have never been synonomous for me... I just get unco and can't write messages on my phone, which always makes me laugh. Don't know why really. Feel sorry for the people who get it permenantly tho.
 
Its very rare i get the eye wobbles...one of my friend gets insaine eye wobbles. its actually really creepy to watch 8o

i do tend to get triple vision (which prooves rather interesting. which is also why i dont drive after pills or drugs) or my phone starts doing funky things with the screen...i hard get nausea aswell...
 
I can cause myself to get nystagmus on command (while completely sober this is), sometimes people get a bit freaked out by it.
I know of about 3 other people that can do it (one is my cousin, any relevance?)
Can anyone else here do it?

yes I can, I couldn't do it before ecstasy and would like to know what caused it.

because I got this feeling its not a healthy ability, I don't know perhaps its caused by my monitor flickering, caused by drugs, or maybe I was just born with it and drugs helped unlock this ability.

I get tired of it though, it doesn't have the same flair anymore, i'd rather I couldn't do it anymore.

Is there a way to cure it, if it is drug or environment induced?
 
I had a few friends in high school that could flicker their eyes which did look very freaky at the time. I always wished that I could do it. And now, with the help of a little tablet, I can!
I found this little bit of information:

“Medications and drugs can cause nystagmus. Causes include excessive drinking of alcohol or use of medications such as those given for seizure control. Often the nystagmus will improve if the medication is stopped, but discuss this with your physician.
Voluntary nystagmus can be created by some people, much in the same way as ear wiggling. Fine, rapid, horizontal movements can be produced and sustained for short periods of time. Disease-induced nystagmus is less common. It is often associated with neurological signs and symptoms.”

There is heaps of info on the net about it if anyone is really interested. From what I’ve read being born with nystagmus would be quite unpleasant. It is also more common than I thought with around 1 in every 1000 born with it. Unfortunatly I could not find any information on why MDMA causes temporary nystagmus. Has anyone else found any info on it?
