NY, NYC - 05.30.04 - Fahrenheit @ the Hammerstein Ballroom *REVIEW*

Hmmm...well Armand Van Helden was a no show. Not that it was something I particularly cared about...but a lot of people definitely did. Sort of sucks for those who paid to see him.

The music...in my humble opinion was so-so at best with the one notable exception, electric indigo...fucking awesome. Seemed like the whole vibe of the party was a little off....and the DJs were not at their best because of that...perhaps vice versa...whatever.

I love the Hammerstein but I just wasn't feeling this party much at all. Don't get me wrong, I had a banging time...but it wasn't due to the atmosphere...it was because I was surrounded by my good friends who make the best of any situation.

You know...I love that all of the venue was open but it just seemed that perhaps it was a little too much. I think people had a hard time figuring out where everything was. I spent the party sober and still got lost in the maze of stairs a number of times, not that my directional skills are anything to brag about. Anyhow...kudos to the drum & bass room cause i loved it, too bad you had to climb a mountian to get to it. (I have patience issues so the elevator was rarely an option). *shrugs*

I enjoyed the party...been to much better...but also been to much worse. Was a little disappointed with the outcome, but every party can't be a great one.

well this was my first NYC party and I was rather disappointed...
Armand Van Helden was not paid so therefore did not spin :(
I pay $40 and the main headliner doesn't show? shady...

other than that I had an awesome time...met a bunch of Bluelights which was a first for me, danced a lot, enjoyed my company ;), and had a nice workout on the stairs. :p

oh yeah another thing, they didn't decorate shit...man if we had a venue like that back in AZ you can bet that there would be crazy stuff everywhere...k back to work

shout out to trixxie for taking me! you rock my world

I was really looking forward to seeing Armand van Helden, but I guess after the NYE party Funky Element threw I can't be too surprised since RITM almost didn't go on cuz they weren't going to get paid. I love the Hammerstein but it was definatly too big for this party, not too many people showed up, but my people were there so I still had a blast :) I was really diggin Electric Indigo and Electric Skychurch. It was a bitch and a half to get to the DnB room, they could have done something with the mail ballroom. No lights, lazers, screens....nothing at all. I still had a great time and had so much fun taking phisheclover to his first NYC party :)

Ehh, I'm no critic when it comes to these things.. It was what I have come to expect from parties in NYC. I had a good time...

I heard a guy saying that they had hoped for 3500, but had less than 1500 people... the sparseness of the crowd definitely contributed to a lack of vibe/atmosphere, especially if you were like me, by yourself or with one other person you knew. but... ELECTRIC SKYCHURCH made this party worthwhile for me... i absolutely love their energy! i could dance for days to those guys!
this party had so much untapped potential, but i still had fun.
someday i'll have to actually meet some bluelighters at a party!

Farenheit

Very dissappointed in the turnout for this party but I always make a good time out of dire situations. Music wise, the party wasn't that bad. I enjoyed Electric Indigo, David Hollands, & Richie Neale. The one good part about the poor showup was that I had more room to dance. As usual I got see alot of my old friends at this party as well as new ones. My knee was swollen all nite but the "medication" helped to take away the pain and got me to dance. I was great to see you Nicole as well as your friend. I hope that One Nation is a little better than this and going to the ballroom upstairs is a bitch.....

-Brian:p

^^Hehe yay for medication....and thanks to you ;) Yeah the grand ballroom was def. a bitch to get to, but I still like when they have it open. When they had One Nation there 2 years ago it was a lot better than this party was, so hopefully it will be just as good this year :)

Funky Element was in charge of the entire Drum n Bass room, bringing in Frankie, Eletric Indigo, Lenny Dee, Rob Gee, other talent & most of the payment of the venue. If you look on the flyer we were *not in charge of bringing in Armand. Also if you look @ the press release the *official reason Armand didnt show was he missed his flight from Ohio from was we were. He has been known to *No show n there *will be consequeneces regarding this but of course. To blame soley Funky Element , for things going wrong @ a party when there were 2 other crews involved - especialy when Funky Element came through with there share & THEN SOME - is wrong especially when one doesnt know what goes on behind the scenes. At the end of the day we are however *NOT one to pass the buck and do apologize for those that didnt enjoy the vibe / atmosphere of this particuliar party. One can look @ our track record and can see our headliners do show up n production is always tight. Do however be on the look out for the next FE jam real soon! Strictly FE *NO collaborations ;-)

Well since SOMEONE from Funky Element doesn't want to take the blame for ANY of the mishaps of this party I will point something out: although the spaciousness of the drum and bass room was awesome as well as the ventilation, the sound up there AND the decoration left something to be desired. It looked like it was all thrown together at the last second.

I don't think that it is fair not to accept any blame for the party not being so hot, thus redirecting the blame at the other production companies. You were a third of the effort there. Just because you have thrown some good parties in the past, has absolutely no relevence to this party. But if you seriously want to base your opinions on previous parties let me just point out all the shit that went down with A New Beginning on New Years Eve of this year.

My intention here is not to flame production companies because sometimes parties work out and sometimes they don't...probably not do to any fault of the efforts made by the production companies. However, when a party does not come out as expected and there were THREE production companies throwing it...i dont see how how one company blaming the other two does anything productive. I just see it as ridiculously poor business.

no-shows

its messed up, sometimes these DJs don't show and the production company gets blamed, i understand there are some company's that do put DJs on the flyers without booking them, however armand was booked for this, just check out his website

click on artist touring
the date is there, so u know he was booked

Let me Firstly point out.. I am in NO WAY blaming any of the other production companies at all. i was more importantly explaining the Armand situation.. Funky Element, Sympty& Underground Labz worked Rather hard on this production @ the end of the day $ was lost and was merely adressing the FALSE fact that was stated above that Funky Element was the sole cause of Armand not showing up. Funky Element, Sympty & Underground Labz @ the end of the day came out working together and are in extreme good relations as going in - so if you felt that i was blaming ANY of the other crews that is DEF. NOT what we meant to get across. Like we said in the previous post.... "WE are NOT one to pass the Buck" so your observation of us not taking reosponsibility or blaming the other crews is wrong - thanx -

As well as stating the point that everyone from our team has made a desicion to work soley together as one. Strictly Funk Element. That way anything goes good or even wrong .. noone to blame but us cause we wee reosponsible, and for obvious othe reasons. know wat im sayin ;-) ;)

He got a SIGNIFICANT $ Deposit, signed contract & then was a NO show. As Jeff from SOE stated above - DJ's sometimes are known to do this. There are promoters out there that list dj's as well even though they are not even booked at the party. I assure you this was NOT the case in this event, and i can speak for Funky Element personaly we have NEVER done that. As you can see above on the link provided to his sight.. he was propperly booked to play our show, end @ the end of the day was a NO Show. totaly out of Symptys, Funky Elements & Underground Labz control. BTW.. His excuse this time.. He missed his flight from Ohio. As stated previously, their will be reprocutions.
Point being we here @ Funky elemnt hope this answers some of your questions regarding Fahrenheit.. im not sure if others involved have been responding regarding some of the few problems that happened that night - but personaly just wanted to answer this forums questions and concerns regarding the event. any additional questions PLEASE FEEL FREE to email me ANY TIME @ [email protected]

Thank You -

Yea sounds like everyone is getting along super. 8(

hmmmm...i like being an outsider. wow. doozer, you're feeling strongly about this honey!! (just go jump on a bed and feel better;)

as for the no show, it sucked. in fact, it ruined the party for me. once 2AM rolled around and electric skychurch gave me a migraine from that lady's awful yelping, i was like "im only here for armand, it will make it ALL better!!!" nope. instead i got cranky, and it sucked.

i thought maybe he came and didnt spin because there werent enough people there, but apparently he got paid some, which isn't cool. when did parties become completely about the cash?! i remember when it was about the music and the vibe. now it's about the cashmoney and the drugs. damn
