There is relatively little love out there for nutmeg intoxication. However, if dosed safely it can be a very pleasurable and even profound experience comparable to several more "mainstream" drugs. This thread is meant to generate discussion of experiences, safety measures, combinations, etc.

I have used nutmeg/mace approximately 10 times. The first experience was horridly unpleasant (albeit interesting). A dose of around 40g was ingested around 4pm and I waited until roughly 10pm and decided to go to sleep. Upon waking, my vision literally rotated almost a quarter way around (so things were sideways) then snapped back and started over again. This rotation was fast, maybe once a second. This was the prominent effect, the rest was a haze.

Several unremarkable attempts later, I had almost given up but gave nutmeg one more try. ~45 minutes after dosing, a nasty chemical smell and taste welled up and persisted for the next 2-3 hours. This began to fade and a growing euphoria set in. The effect on primary consciousness resembled that of cannabis, but without any lethargy. About 7 hours in, I had insightful thoughts similar to those experienced on Amanita Muscaria or a low dose of psilocybin. This trip is the reason I am fascinated by nutmeg and its (extremely) variable effects.

An interesting note: with every use, the onset of effects was (quite noticeably) faster. What might be the cause of this?

Yeah, if you overdo it, you only realise you're on a 12 hour trip to hell after it's too late to get out of it. I spent a whole summer doing nutmeg one year and I had a couple of profoundly horrifying experiences from it. The negatives weren't really balanced out by the handful of good experiences I had either, to be honest, but I just didn't want to be sober so I did it all the same.

Anyway, I ultimately found nutmeg was just too variable and unreliable both in dosage and effects to properly enjoy consistently. To me, it seemed like luck on the few occasions I managed to get a strong 12 hour weed-like high out of it. The rest of the time I either tripped balls (not proper AV hallucinations per se, just very strange bodily sensations and perceptual distortion) or I just felt exceptionally lazy, irritable and distant from reality.

I don't take it anymore and I probably wouldn't ever again but it can be enjoyed when the conditions are right.

^Actual nutmeg. It contains (at least) myristicin and is a usually classified as a deliriant like diphenhydramine. Usually one feels poisoned and confused for a day or so but some people report more enjoyable effects. Possibly they just enjoy it or possibly something else is going on (Shulgin, myristicin metabolized to MDMA, wishful thinking, etc).

pure essential oils are much more powerful than people give credit...
and after successfully and unsuccessfully trying nutmeg I give my warning to any thinking of trying it

USE FRESH WHOLE CLOVES the powder (because it has usually sat around for a long time) has allowed a lot of the myristicin and safrol etc. to degrade into more "difficult" chemicals that will make you most likely have a not so fun time

START SMALL AND WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE REDOSING its easy to fuck yourselves up for more than 24 hours on this stuff because you assumed it was just another herb/spice

fun fact: a lot of the active ingredients are precursors to MDA and MDMA for some organic synthesises

I didnt know it really worked. I thought it was one of those dried bannana skins / saffron type things that kiddies raid from their mums spice rack to no avail whatsoever other than frying your lung tissue.

true saffron crocus will get you high, but its expensive, mild, and the mechanism of action is quite bad for you. but it is said to be like low doses of opium and coca combined.

the likelihood of you mum having true saffron and not a knock off spice called saffron is very slim though, so I am willing to bet in the context you are using, yeah its bunk

It can feel very similar to an intense, long-lasting weed high so I think some people genuinely do just enjoy it. I know I did on a few occasions.

Although a lot of the time for a lot of people, it feels exactly like you say. "Poisoned and confused" describes an average day on nutmeg to the letter in my opinion.

Saffron can get you a Opium high ? What kind of alkaloid is in it ?

Back in my youth when I just wanted to try any anD every intoxicant I could find, I often thought about dosing nutmeg. What always stopped me from doing it though was the "logistics" of it---> How does one consume xx many grams of freshly grated nutmeg without puking? Or at least without the experience being so aweful you manage to eat/drink the full dose????

I have no problem with mushrooms, ate them with glee, I had no problem with pharmaceuticals---would chew up everything from xanax to big ol vicodans like they were pieces of Pez, heck I even used to chew up my xtc, drank bottles of tussin, etcc...you get the idea. But the thought ofswallowing all that nutmeg either via a "toss 'n' wash" method or by mixing it into a cup with some liquid to gulp it down....well I could just never get myself to even try it.

So how do/diid you people consume it, those who've ingested nutmeg before??

Has anyone tried putting the freshly grated powder into gel caps??

What about its effects on the stomach once ingested? Does it cause any burning, irritation, heartburn, nausia, etc...? Is vomiting a possible or common occurance?

What aboout taaking antacids, milk, or other subbstances to coat the stomach to prevent irritaation?

And does consuming on an empty vs full stomach matter both in terms of effects and side effects?

And can anyone ellaborate on the effects in a sort of dose-effect & time manner? For example how does a low dose effect you aat +1 hour, at +2 hours, at +5 hours, etc. And same thing for a medium dose and a high dose?

First, let me assure you that your post made me shudder violently as I remembered the experience of ingesting nutmeg. You're right to be put off by the process of actually taking it. In my opinion, it's so difficult to swallow and keep down enough of it to get high that I would say it's very much a "desperate times, desperate measures" kind of drug. I did it simply because I didn't want to be sober; I was desperate for anything that would bend my mind and numb me -- and nutmeg just happened to be an exceptionally economical way to do that.

I always did it by just dumping ground nutmeg from a bottle into a glass of orange juice, chugging it like a champ and hoping I could hold back my gag reflex long enough to swallow it. It doesn't dissolve so occasionally you'd finish the orange juice and end up with a fucking great big rock of nutmeg on your tongue -- I was invariably sick on the few occasions that happened. Worth noting that I can't even have nutmeg in my food anymore; the smell and taste of it both make me gag. Anyway, gel caps would definitely be the best way to fly although you'd need quite a few of them! Besides enclosing the nutmeg in some way (e.g. gel caps), there's really not much you can do to make it taste bearable in those quantities.

Sometimes there's some minor stomach irritation and, more often than not, some heartburn (and you'd especially enjoy the nutmeg-flavoured burps :P). If I remember correctly, the heartburn can easily last for a good third of the duration of the high. If you're doing what some did (myself included on several occasions) and ingesting it before you go to bed, you'll wake up high as a kite with horrible heartburn that will probably last all day. I wouldn't recommend that at all. I don't know what you can do to ease those side-effects, I don't think I did anything about it personally because it didn't bother me too much (probably because I was too high to care).

I'm going to stop there because I've run out of useful memories. Honestly, that month or two is just one long blur to me now; it's like it never happened. Check Erowid for dose info though, that's where I got mine.

Overall, I'd have to recommend to you and all other curious readers to simply not bother with nutmeg. It's the $5 hooker of getting high: it's cheap, only for the desperate and often not particularly enjoyable.

nutmeg is NICE, unfortunately takes about 7 hours to kick in and it's known for wrecking your liver and potentially rewiring your brian cells (well, actually, frying them).

gave me a nice pot-like high but more delirious, like pot's euphoria and mellowness/psychedelia mixed with benadryl's side effects and loss of lucidity.

I think its a plant steroid... there is an ADD thread on Bluelight about it though, try and find that (google saffron crocus active chemical bluelight or something similar)
