I was on Opana ER 10 TID, and it worked fairly well for pain, then they changed the formula and it does nothing at all. Now my Dr wants me to try Nucynta ER 100mg BID. Im on pill 2 for the day and it appears to do nothing as well. I used Vicoprofen QID for years and they worked, but nobody around here will write for any hydros at all. The dr also mentioned oral morphine and/or fentynal patches.....what do you gs think?

I personally like morphine...since you are using it for genuine pain, the low oral bioavailability shouldn't be an issue...The one drawback to morphine is that if you get IR morphine, it only lasts 3-4 hours, but you've only mentioned ER meds so that probably isn't the case...

Most likely since he had you taking Opana ER 10 TID, he would switch you to something like MS-Contin ER 30 TID...

I have no experience with fentanyl patches, but I'm pretty sure the morphine would be a lot cheaper alternative to try first...

Go for the morphine. It is the best painkiller you can get. Nothing has been proven to be superior. You'll just have to find the proper dose for you.

Im assuming you are not from the states since you cant get hydrocodone? Anyway, Morphine is great for pain & hopefully you can get the ER/SR ones. Some people hate Morphine & cant stand it but I suggest you try it out. Fentanyl will take your tolerance way up, depending on your pain, I wouldnt mess with it.

Everybody is different. Morphine is the gold standard for a reason. Getting high and pain management are two totally different scales to judge a medication by. I haven't tried nucynta but morphine is the go to medicine for a reason, it is one of if not the most well studied narcotics. The main issue is the side effects. Almost every opiate is touted as having less side effects than morphine. People can either handle the side effects or they can't. They usually don't go away after dose stabalization IME and others around me. If you can tolerate them then I'd go from there and continue to another medicine if you can't get an appropriate dose or regimine worked out. My 2 cents.

I do use it for legitimate pain, but I did enjoy the euphoric effects of the hydro. The ER formulas have no euphoric effects at all. I wish they would write for an ER dose and a PRN IR dose. Im in great health other than my chronic pain. I did chew up one of the Opana ER 10mg (before they made it uncrushable) and I still didnt get any type of buzz. I have to go back Monday, and I think Im going to ask for the Morphine. Any thoughts?

Im in the states, but where I live is one of the pain killer epidemic areas. Lets put it this way...my 81 year old Mom fell down a flight of 13 wooden stairs, broke her back and her shoulder. She got TWENTY 5/500 hydros. Im not kidding. Its INSANE HERE.
