Quite :)
When you blend in all the different wavelengths of light and make them visible.... Heeeebeeejeeebeee you get some stunning, awe-inspiring, awesome (used in the most correct term), beautiful and powerful pictures...

I think the universe is mostly dark and cold, certain celestial bodies do emict light and others reflect it.
... **Ahem... Points to Arnold'sGIF** ;)

I cannot get enough of the "Deep Field" pictures!!!!
Even thinking of yourself as a singular-celled organism is utterly fruitless when you compare such a concept to the vastness...
And it works just as well for the infinitesimally teenyweeny!

... I'm so going to walk through a wall some day....
... Then maybe stumble into another dimension so small that it cannot be viewed by even the most powerful microscopes.

Ooooh! If I can find what that just reminded me of - Prepare to be fucking blown away!

Ramesh Raskar: Imaging at a trillion frames per second

.... You can actually see light moving and defracting!!!
My Invented Entity Up In The Sky! This has to be one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

Good call on that TED Talk vid, Monsta. Watched that t'other day and was gonna post it in the documentaries thread or summat cos everyone should see it. Fuckin' incredible photography 8o

And speaking of which, that Hubble Ultra Deep Field pic is getting on a bit now. Been thoroughly bumped by the more recent VISTA Deep Field pic:

Not as colourful as the Hubble one at first glance but rather than a measly 10,000 galaxies in a wee speck o' sky you get 200,000 in a wee speck o' sky instead. Big ol' place is that thar Universe :)

Detail...

There's a linky above where you can download the whole 187,000 megapixel version and zoom about as you please :)

you guys know it doesnt actually look like that to the naked eye right? like they color it based off wavelengths. its not like if you were there with a space ship that is what you would see.

Fair point, but there's no good reason to limit ourselves to the visible part of the spectrum.

Ha! I shall make sure any future vanishings are suitably hardcore then :p:D:p

"YEEEYOOOOWEEEE IT'S JUST FUCKING AMAZING!" Is almost exactly the reaction I had when I stumbled across that vid too. I saw summat where they'd slowed light down to sillyslow speed in the lab which was pretty cool, but watching the real thing just do it's thing in detail is awesome in the true sense of the word.

Enjoy the galactopr0n, Monsta. Is fuckin' massive 8(8o:D
