Opioids Novel Opioid, Investigational Antagonist, Combo Pill In Development

^thats exactly what i wast thinking

also, with crossing the BBB very slowly, this might lead to patients taking more and more because they havent felt relief yet and ending up overdosing

I'd just like to see the focus of Big Pharma move towards better pain relief for patients and away from the prevention of abuse.

When fingers are pointed at those who abuse painkillers for recreational purposes, it gets ridiculous. Realize this I, as someone who has abused painkillers, did not do so because I was trying to make it more difficult for pain patients to get medications that worked for them. I did it because I enjoy it. Now big pharma, the govt and doctors have decided that because of the enjoyment I get they should change how they deal with patient's pain. These decisions are being made not because of the people who the medication is actually for, how absurd is that?

And guess what, I just do heroin now, so greater of 2 evils, pick one. Trying to stop people from doing drugs is a simple situation of plug one hole and another pops right up. Look at the stupid Silk Road shutdown, in 1 week another tor site is reaping all their lost profits. Same on the street, bag one big dealer and another steps right in to take his profits. At least when the black market was filled with easy to abuse pills we knew what doses we were taking.

As long as "for profit" is in our healthcare system I'm afraid this will never happen, but I certainly agree... Just like all the "buprenorphine over methadone" propaganda... It's no coincidence there are several name brand, patented formulations of bupe that make them MILLIONS of dollars when they make pennies of methadone comparatively... Yet methadone is still the "gold standard treatment" (National Institutes of Health) and the "most effective treatment" (CDC) for opioid addiction available. We need to be expanding access and making it easier to obtain BOTH methadone AND buprenorphine... But the $$$ drives a division in the medication assisted treatment community when we should all be working together. 8o

What a lot of people not in pain don't realize is that the quick onset and the euphoria is part of the pain killing properties. Every time I've tried a product that is supposedly less euphoric, it has not controlled the pain. The OP's and the new opanas come to mind. Real oc and others work great, did not need improvement or modification. There will always be opiate addicts, always, just because they prefer a certain product doesn't mean pain patients don't deserve them.

slower onset means less preferable for "as needed" prescriptions (the majority) also, the faster onset generally means more efficient analgesia IME

just a scam, opiates are going to be abused, its their nature, its just a matter of how. there is no fucking way around that, and pharm companies will continue to scam doctors and law makers by continuing to tell them differently

Since people first started with them, that's been the case. Their always talking about the new oxy epidemic, or the hydro epidemic... an opiate is an opiate is an opiate. Someone will always get addicted. They kill your pain for fucks sake, who doesn't want that?

1,000 posts... damn I need to stop doing drugs...

Totally agree with both of the last two comments... It was my experience as well. I'm a methadone patient now (and it's been WONDERFUL for me), but when I was still actively using I remember the OC's changing to OP's right before I did my intake at the methadone clinic, and it wasn't that they were just harder to bust up/cook, etc.... I really do deal with some pretty pain joint pain/arthralgia, especially in my knees and hips, and I would also take them by mouth (the "correct" way) for the pain - sure I'd IV them or less frequently snort them as well - and I noticed an ENORMOUS difference in the analgesia between the OC and the OP. I've heard the same thing about the newer Opanas having a similar fate. Like you say, though, opioids are going to be abused. Period. But the current approach is hurting folks with chronic pain that truly, legitimately NEED them for a quality life and doing very little - to nothing - to cut down on overdose and/or abuse. There has been a continued RISE in opioid overdose despite these efforts... But at the same time a lot more folks suffering now too. ::sigh::

^Just more heroin users now. No one wins in this situation. Pain pills become worthless and way overpriced for street addicts and so they turn to heroin, a much better option. All the while now an inferior product for pain management is offered to those who are truly in need of pain management. Its pure ignorance and a sad state of affairs.
