Opioids Not stabilized on Methadone yet?

My clinic don't like to do the split dose. When I get enough take homes I can do it myself then see how that goes and reduce as needed. I understand that it takes a few days after an increase to really know if it is helping or not. I didn't want to be on this high of a dose but it is what works for now. I appreciate the help and explanations of how it works.

Look I have no problem with you being on a high dose, if it works for you, that's great.

Ultimately, if 200mg of methadone improved your life, then good for you.

What bothered me is that you were telling the OP to just up his dose, even though he is already nodding off. It was almost as if you we're glorifying your very large dose, or at least minimize the serious nature if being dependent on such a dose.

If you check out my other posts, you'll see that I'm really not an asshole. :)

He said he wasn't noding or getting high anymore but was feeling sick in less then 24 hours. My point was just because you don't want to go over a hundred mg's doesnt mean that you will be good at that dose. By no means was I glorifying any dose other then the one that holds. I should have elaborated more It's all good man no problems here :)

Jack- what were you using/how much were you using when you last came off the past run? I start the clinic next Tuesday and I am worries I will struggle w/ the early dosing coming off a gram/bundle/day habit. on "off" days I'd take 60/MG of Methadone pills and still not feel great, so not sure how starting out at 30/MG is going to be.

Its gonna suck at first you will be using most likely on top of the Meth. But that's the way they have to do it they can set it up with the pharmacist over at the pharmacy so everyday or every other day you can up it if you need it so you don't have to wait till you go see your ddoc again. But they usually make the appointments close together at first until you get stabilised so it won't be too long
It won't be that bad I mean 30mgs is quite a but of opiates it will be a lot better than cold turkey that's for sure you will probably just feel slight sickness at night and in morning but most people feel sick when they wake up when on methadone anyways just usually the way it is

last thing I want is to struggle getting up; thats the toughest part. we'll see how it all plays out; I am looking forward to not spending 100's a day but not looking forward to having to go there daily but also not looking forward to going to see Mr. Dealer every day either.

After a few weeks you probably won't need an alarm clock your body will wake up telling you it's time to dose.

^ Yea...I'd like to know he's doin' alright even if he isn't feeling too alright. Most dangerous phases of methadone- getting on it, finding the dose that holds you& then getting off it. Hope guys ok..

Sorry, I replied a few days ago but for some reason it did not go through. Thank you all so much for your responses. First, my clinic does not offer split dosing, they used to. I am made an appointment in two days to see the nurse practitioner. In answers to your original questions Lorne??? Yes I only got a buzz when I took the cimetidine, and I also took hydroxyzine, ciprofloxacin, benadryl, and DXM. I took 600 mg of cimetidine. Trainspotter, it may be partly mental. I can feel like shit 4 hours after my dose. It fluctuates, it usually requires a temperature change. If I'm sweating and I walk into AC or I am in AC and I walk outside and it's warm. It might be in might head to a slight degree. Temp change reminds me of wd. I definitely am I wd in the morning about 24 after I took my dose. It is minimal. Lorne??? I was only suboxone twice. 4 years ago when I just ate pills for a year. I was on subs and subutex for two months and weaned myself off. I was clean after that for a month or two, but because of an arrest in outpatient treatment I had to stop smoking weed and more importantly a girl I met introduced me to dope and shot me up for the first time christmas 2010. I had tried to hit myself for months before that and actually IMed dope in my inner thigh. I actually liked it, it hit me in less than ten minutes, no problems no abscesses. Anyway I went on subs again and they were now the strips. I shot them sometimes because the smell would make me gag because I was doing almost two bundles a day when I would take them. Suboxone did help me originally but that was in the infancy of my addiction. Methadone takes away the cravings like no other, hopefully that lasts long enough to where I am in a better place in my life and won't feel that need to use. I have been clean since I started 12 days ago. Even while feeling like shit I had no desire to do dope. I am going to wait another week and if I don't feel better I will discuss will my counselor about possibility raising my dose.

I was on clonidine for a few months in early 2013 then from August to November. I was up to 0.9 mg/day. I was prescribed two 0.3 mg twice a day and would sometimes take three. Originally I was prescribed 0.1 mg twice a day from my GP for opiate withdrawal and kept getting refills through the pharmacy and told him it helped me sleep and helped with my anxiety. I used it to help with my sweats and anxiety/sleep in between using this past fall. Unfortunately a counselor at my outpatient called my doctor after I told her that I was on clonidine for six months. I was falling asleep in group (8 am) and she thought I was high so I told her it was the clonidine and my dose made me sleepy. When I went to refill it was declined and I called the doctors office and he wanted to see me (I have no money for the $20 copayment) and refused to call anymore in. So I went "cold turkey," from nearly a milligram of clonidine a day. I was lucky I didn't get rebound hypertension.

Again, thank you so much for your concern and feedback. At first I didn't get many responses so i wasn't checking to often, and my response from a few days ago right when the split dosing was brought up didn't go through. Lorne??? I will check out your post in the Methadone Megathread. I believe I just read through it, going to go back and look for your post.

Edit: Lorne??? It was another 10 page "Methadone discussion vs why the hell not" thread so I will go check your post out. I have literally spent hours reading about methadone before and since I have been on it.

Hey Mr. JackBurton, so glad you're doing..ok. I'm hoping you get to that right dose that holds you soon. You're using methadone for the right reason. It's difficult at first ...making the necessary changes to enable a clean life. Maybe you have a rapid metabolism..I certainly hope that your Dr./NP will do what's right by you. If you need a split dose, you need a split dose. Lame if they refuse it. One good thing to remember, if you end up needing a high dose, once you've sorted life habits out, initiating healthy life, make sure you've got a taper program worked out....in place, for when you know you're ready to "be released ", taking bigger reductions are easier in higher doses(I seem to have had a little bit opposite..but looking back, I think I was scared to death of feeling like death) I've read that sometimes it CAN take a couple week to stabilize, as methadone builds up in your system. It wasn't like that for me-I was certainly put on a dose that was ..most likely way above my tolerance at that point. Maybe by time you see the NP in a couple days you'll be feeling proper. If not, they realllly need to make an exception for split dose. My clinic didn't "advertise" the split dosing-but I remember a few people who were exceptions as well as some who could not take the liquid. I REALLY hope things get feeling better soon for you-let us know how things go with your appointment! Until then...keep your head up, stay focused and face forward! ;)
