Not really 'druggies'?

I wonder if kids are "abusing" prescriptions more than their adult counterparts is because the adults are more likely to be getting their desired prescriptions from legitimate sources. If you look at the most commonly prescribed medications you see a lot of abusable ones near the top

well, ya know, there wasnt enough negativity in that sentence. since we are forced to write this cess as negative as possible, we had to make that little bit up so that people associate it with something weve allready forced them to associate with evil badness.
yuuup. Kind of like calling oxycontin 'hillbilly heroin'. Last I checked, heroin gave ya more bang for your buck (by a long shot), so just what kind of rich ass hillbillies are all about oxycontin as an H sub?

I'm sure that could be a part of it, but i'd say a larger factor would be the fact that kids that age are just using more drugs in general (to get high) than adults are. I thought 12th grade was one of the highest usage timeframes?

Daniel Smith, his younger brother, began using prescription drugs the same way when a friend offered him Vicodin while watching a school football game during his sophomore year. By that summer, he began taking "weak painkillers" such as Lortab and Percocet. Finally, he turned to highly addictive OxyContin, using it several times a week.

OK. So...this kid went from taking "weak painkillers" like oxycodone to taking highly addictive painkillers like oxycodone? Someone please explain that to me.

Their drugs of choice are those often preferred by adults. After amphetamines such as Ritalin, they're turning to painkillers such as Vicodin and Percocet, then sedatives and tranquilizers.

^^^^^^^^^^
"Amphetamines such as Ritalin"? Ritalin is not an amphetamine! What the fuck is the author of this story on?

she didn't say oxycodone, she mentioned specific, weak brand name preparations of oxycodone, and compared them to a high strength preparation, oxycontin. It's a bit misleading, but holds a lot more weight than some of the other crap in there. I'd call brick mexican crap a 'weak cannabis high', and high quality hash in a similar way. Ya, you could smoke enough mexican stuff to get the same cannabinoids down, but practically speaking one is a stronger one than another. Many people begin on percocet/etc, and many now refer to those as weak painkillers. I know that comes out of my mouth all the time when asking around for opiates, because they are weak, unless you either risk your health by deciding to down tons of apap, or you have to do a cwe just to get a respectable amount of oxycodone out of them.

Ritalin isn't an amphetamine, it's definitely amphetamine-like tho

Ritalin, or "Methylphenidate (MPH) is an amphetamine-like prescription stimulant commonly used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adults."

So, why were we fools, johnny chimpo?

Well, regardless, I've made my point. Ritalin is NOT an amphetamine. And the people that are telling me "it's amphetamine-like" must not have much drug experience, because I used to be an amp addict, and I'm telling you, Ritalin feels absolutely NOTHING LIKE AMPS. I took 5mg Ritalin yesterday and fucking shook like I had Parkinson's for 5 hours. Fuck that stupid coke mimicker. Coke, crack, Ritalin, they all suck ass.

Ritalin is like amphetamines like codeine is like opiates (yes, i know codeine really is one technically, but this is for illustrative purposes). They feel like they're from the same class, but just isn't anywhere near the other. Ritalin was 'amphetamine-like' when it was one of my first drug experiences. In low doses, at first, it seemed comparable enough to adderall, which IS amphetamine (dextro-). With experience, having tried the real forms of stimulants/amphetamines, it no longer seems amphetamine-like, but I can see how it would be to stimulant-naive folk.

Agreed. Experience is everything, and I hate it when people who do not know any better talk down to me. I don't mean to sound pompous, but shit, if you haven't had a decent amount of experience with uppers, then you really don't have a valid opinion. That's like someone telling me that Pink Floyd sucks when they've only heard one song. Fuck that logic.

And maybe, instead of using codeine in your example, you should have used tramadol or something - if I remember correctly, it's not quite a full-blown opiate/opioid, is it?

An 18-year-old senior and varsity athlete at Burbank (Calif.) High School says she doesn't consider herself a "big druggie." But about once a month, when she and her friends can find some, they like to take Vicodin, or "vikes," after school or before parties. "I just feel calmer on it. Nothing stresses me out," she says. Her friends are less cautious. They've also tried codeine, Valium, Percocet and Xanax, sometimes mixing several at once.

Hey! Burbank, CA that's like right here, haha how cool. I know people from Burbank High, wonder if it's any of them lol.

haha damn, never heard of tramadol, well i have, never knew what it was. Codeine may as well not be an opiate tho if you know what i mean lol.
But you're dead on point. If you don't know what you're talking about, then just shut up. Coffee is the strongest stimulant you've used? Shut the hell up.

I actually don't mind codeine, but I have to take dangerous amounts, like 600mg+. Probably not smart. So...I don't take it anymore. Is that why you think it's shitty? Just curious. The last time I used it was in the form of codeine/promethazine syrup, which I drank on top of a bunch of hydrocodone and xanax. What a waste. The promethazine blacked me out, not the xanax, it takes upwards of 15 bars to even make me pass out, in fact, when I got fired from my last job I had taken 33 bars and 20 10mg vicoden, and I was conscious the whole time. Just really fucked up I'd imagine. That's not me boasting, though, it was stupid and I wish it hadn't happened. Sorry if I'm running on, I'm a little out of it...and I'm not even high...

wow 15 bars?! Jesus! Damn that's high dose (although i can't say i've ever seen anyone with real benzo tolerance). I use pretty regularly, but damn, i wouldn't be able to finish a bar! In fact, i usually make a bar either 3 or 4 doses....

Codeine? Well, i just don't find it to be good for getting high. I've done high doses before (AFTER doing a cold water wash) from tylenol t3's, and just found it to give some of hte negatives of opiates, but no real euphoria/nod. If i were to use codeine again, it would *only* be mixed with benzos (warning: dangerous!), not that i don't typically do that with other types of opes or anything, but it would be requisite to touch the codeine. That, and, like, 10 blunts to my face. Maybe next time i'm in canada (is it still OTC there?) i'll do a huge wash and try again, it's been an insane amount of time since i've even seen codeine.

It is a boring opiate. But if I'm like, just hanging around town it's fun because it's not very distracting. I remember the first time I tried it, when I had no opiate tolerance, I took 4 of my sister's T4s (240mg codeine), and had my friend drive me to the mall. I smoked a lot of pot on the way up there, and then when I got to the mall I was hallucinating, barely able to stand up. I was laughing my ass off, too. It was great. I'm sure everyone knew I was high.

BTW, yeah, my benzo tolerance is fucking insane. I've never met anyone who takes as much as me (once again, not boasting, as it would save me alot of money to have a lower tolerance). I should be getting 5 bars tonight. I'm sure I'll take them all and barely catch a buzz.

wow, that's nuts! i wasn't even exaggerating before, i can't even remember a time i've tried a whole bar that i didn't pass out within an hour of taking it. Even when i'm using very, very regularly, my dosage never really increases (wow, just typing that and seeing those words makes me think maybe i'm self medicating instead of getting high, as i kind fo thought i was. Guess i didn't give it much thought, but seriously, if i get a bunch of xanax of klonapins, i just take them very regularly, maybe 5 days a week, but never ever increase teh dosages. Now if i have a bunch of opiates around, well, it's like a 10% increase in dosage each use. Maybe i should just go get a friggin script for xanax, or the even better kpins lol! )
