Its been hard times
since I took that drive
waved goodbye
to all I knew
to everything I thought
that I could leave behind
I always said it would be easy
to say goodbye to small town life

alone in this big city
so far away from you, and you
only a phone call away
but a phone call is never the same
as when friends held friends tight

thinking about all the good times
that we used to have

our friendships ended long before
I took my last line
danced my last dance
said no to the puff, puff pass
pushed away another trip
our lives, our common ground
rooted in chemicals that blind our eyes
so that we cant see each other - clear

you don’t realize it
until its all been said and done
before you leave the life you lived
all those months, so high
friendships built on something
that were built on nothing
dig our toes into the sad, sand
watch the water flow
watch it all collapse

when I gave it up the daily grind
I gave up you all instead
because you never knew me
only high
and now were left with nothing
big surprise
we always said
friends forever, til the end
the end came sooner than I thought

cos you see, its all fake
our friendship was selfish
built on what we could get from
each other, to get with each other
I woke up slowly
saw who you really were
and knew it wasn’t worth it
all those days - never meant a thing

say goodbye to the high days
the best time of my life
friends not with the people
but with the chemicals
now its over - now its ended
and im less than empty
than I’ve been before
thanks to what you taught me

and the words you should have said
echo in my mind, so deep sometimes
chemicals forever
not friends forever

Reading this makes me reliese how many friendships i've made just becasue of the drugs and how fake each one of them are.

Sometimes you find that a lot of friendships are just built on the good times... and when the good times run dry, it's a moment of sadness, but also a time for growth & self discovery and a time to make new friends who will know you for who you really are.
