Misc Not feeling the cold on citalopram?

Hey Bluelight, I've been on citalopram for just about 7 weeks now, have definetly noticed some positives: more energy, been learning guitar, been able to concentrate on reading again. However i've noticed a couple of side effetcs (lucky its only been a couple) & i'm wondering if others on antidepressants in general feel the same.

I'll leave out the others, but i've noticed i'm not really feeling the cold... Havn't been heating my bedroom at night, just extra blankets. Also when somebody puts on a fire in the room i feel like i'm suffocating.

I only mention this because usually i feel the cold like hell but only really noticed i wasnt feeling it so much when i began taking this drug.

I started on 20mg per day, then up to 40, then down to 20 again & now i'm thinking of asking to be put down to 10 as i really would rather not spend my 20's on antidepressants.

So, i realise this is a pretty boring thread, i'm just looking for a little feedback. Thanks in advance.
 
Yeah, it's definitely possible that the Citalopram is either making you less aware of the cold or else raising your body temperature, heartrate etc. I haven't tried Citalopram myself but I have noticed not feeling the cold as much on other drugs, such as anti-depressants, opiates and stimulants. Citalopram can increase body temperature and cause sweating, so that could explain why you are less sensitive to the cold but more sensitive to heat. If it was just not being aware of the cold (due to increased serotonin etc) then I think you would presumably not be as aware of heat either (?).

I do think if you can function without it it is a good idea to talk to your doctor about lowering your dose, tapering down, or switching to an anti-depressant that has less side-effects and causes less dependency. Citalopram has a lot of common potential side effects and when people take it for a long time and then stop they usually get withdrawal symptoms.
