Hello, I am not sure if this should go here or OD, but this is really a health issue.

Since 3 months certainly, I produce a ton of mucus and saliva which when I spit out is clear. I'm on suboxone which while not an awesome painkiller, certainly works better than tylenol or advil. But with time it's getting worse and new symptoms have appeared, especially after I've taken a long restful sleep (10hours+) I'll often wake up with pain inside my ears, throat and even my tongue will feel like hurting. I do not smoke cigarettes since 5 months, I vape now. Sometimes I need to use my Symbicort inhaler which normally only happens if I catch the flu since a long time (I had pneumonia in 2010 and needed it for a while to completely feel better, and it kinda scarred my lungs slightly so I got a permanent script for it, although things on that angle got better until this started). It feels like one of those low level infections that come and go and are never strong enough for me to visit the ER (no GP right now, the old man retired last fall). I often just say fuck it and take a bit more suboxone than I should on a bad day and the pain goes away. My tongue doesn't get white or anything, no red back of throat either, no coloured mucus. But something's going on, sometimes I'll be sitting in my office in my house at my desktop and I will have mucus spitting spells that last a good half hour annoying my girlfriend to death (it really sounds awful when I have to spit this stuff that is VERY sticky, which is very difficult to pull out doing the usual GAAARRRGHHH to clear one's throat and sinus fully, it gets stuck in the space/hole that's connecting my throat to my sinuses. I'm wondering if the Subs aren't hiding a much worse painful upper respiratory infection that's going (although, still that stuff I keep expelling is clear) on. Sometimes if I drink something like milk right after waking up, it'll help me spit out some stuff, and once I spat out a pretty big red ball of I-don't-know what that seemed to climb up my throat by itself after drinking the glass of milk. It happened a few other times but those other times it was very tiny reddish specks. Could it be blood mixed with saliva? I've never seen something like what I've spat out the time it was about big like a canadian dime. I've been pretty paranoid that something bad is going on since then.

I'd appreciate some help here before I show up at the ER and wait 6-10 hours in a room full of people with really bad flus...

Thanks

I'm not sure. Could you be more specific about your symptoms? Do you have any resembling a cold or flu (particularly a sore throat at any point)? Do you have pressure in your ears or sinuses? Do you suffer from allergies?

It sounds like it could be an upper respiratory infection (budding into an ear infection). You could try a raw maintenance dose of sub (like nearly mild w/d) as a diagnostic test, to assess severity of symptoms.

You should consider going to an unrgent care clinic (in the US, you can sometimes find cheap ones, with sliding scale fees, etc.).

Oh hi, I didn't think anybody answered.

I do feel pressure in my sinuses and ears from time to time, mostly after waking up and it fades away during the day when it happens. I'm mostly freaked out by that large thing that climbed up my throat after drinking milk a month ago or so, it was large like about when one spits out green mucus that sticks together, except it pink/reddish, almost if a piece of flesh of my throat detached itself :?

The most common symptoms I have is snorting back phlegm, which will slightly go through the hole (I wish I remembered the name of that body part) at the bottom of my nose that connects to my throat where it will really annoy me and I'll have to do the disgusting noisy spitting one does when they have the flu and have that sticky yellow/green phlegm. Except in my case, it is always a pristine normal transparent phlegm. It can be sometimes whitish and kind of foamy. Except for those times that felt like my throat and tongue were on fire. I started to brush my teeth regularly again, I'm paranoid about some minor gingivitis going on that spreaded...I don't know why, since I was put on suboxone, I don't get that horrible taste in my mouth in the morning that made me run to brush my teeth. Now I gotta force myself, and it was bloody yesterday morning. Haven't been to the dentist since hmm, 2011. I bought some Crest Pro Sensitive Teeth paste and will be using that twice a day and see if I notice anything different. And no don't worry my mouth isn't disgusting, I got perfect teeth according to all the dentist I have seen, completely perfectly aligned, and only had my first cavities in my late 20's and they were very small.

I didn't spit out that suspicious ball of what-the-fuck again. But my phlegm spitting sprees are making my girlfriend go crazy, and myself too, I spit more than when I was smoking cigarettes.

Could it be related to the vaping? I hear some people get phlegm from e-cigs, from e-liquid that contains vegetable glycerine. The stuff I use says it's Propylene Glycol and/or vegetable glycerine, after much browsing, some people are saying that vegetable glycerine causes them to produce this kind of phlegm...hmm...Thing is, even when I used other brands, they all contained vegetable glycerine, this brand is the only one saying and/or. It would seem that propylene glycol only e-liquid would be preferable, but I've never see that.

Yeah, pg and vg can definitely stimulate phlem production, and pg can be somewhat dessicating to throat tissues. I wouldn't be too alarmed, but do you have any reason not to see a doctor?

My GP retired last fall like I said in my OP. Which really sucks, I could see the old man in the next 4 to 5 days after calling to schedule an appnt. I got no alternative other than a walk-in clinic (where you have to be waiting outside before it opens at 8am, lately it has been -25c and less everyday here and it's even worse during the early morning (it was -33 yesterday morning).

Going to the ER is overkill, believe me, the closest ER, I've learned only to go there when in really deep physical or psychological dangers, even if free, you don't get the best treatment when they don't consider your condition "acute".

I have been on Suboxone for 3 years and have never had any of these symptoms. I started at 24 mg daily and have tapered to 8 mg daily. I suggest you go to a Doctor. This may very well be related to your previous bout with pneumonia.

Edit: Sorry I missed the part about Ecigs. That would be my bet. But, still go to a Doctor to get the best assessment.

To me it sounds like an allergic reaction to something... something histamine related.

I don't mess with benadryl because it knocks me out, but you may try some of that and see if it knocks your symptoms down. Not that it would be a long term fix if it did.

Do you have any other allergies/hypersensitivities, that you are aware of?
