I have been using heroin in the evenings and it really makes ti hard to sleep. Does anyone else have this problem. If I shoot and then go to bed after it wears off im ok. However if I am still high it takes a while to fall asleep and when i do sleep it is of poor quality. Any suggestions or should I just wait till im not high to sleep?

Thanks

Yeah insomnia is a common side effect of opiates. Benzos are good for getting to sleep if this is a problem for you.

check out the articles on paradoxical stimulation from opiates via dopamine and opioid receptors fused in the mesolimbic system. author James H Austin in his book "ZEN AND THE BRAIN" relates interesting cross influences between these two receptors..........
there is also some discussion about this in the hive archives and on opiophile.org

Once in a great while I get this, but usually it helps me sleep. Then again, when you're body adjusts to things after such a long time, it just seems normal. However, I always pop a few xannies when this happens, but I guess I'm lucky enough to have them scripted ;)

My experience with opiates s that if you go to bed while still under the influence, you tend to get very realistic dreams, some of which can become quite distressing & when you wake up you feel trapped between the awake and asleep state, which is just adding fuel to the 'distress' fire

Opiates help me sleep, in a sense. There is still that very present and all powerful opiate induced insomnia. However, if I take a dose at say, even midnight, I will be able to sleep perfectly when the drug wears off after two hours. Without taking the drug, I would instead be up until 3am. I have horrible restlessness which prevents me from getting to sleep until very late. I seem to be charged for more hours than most people after a night's sleep. However, opiates take this restlessness away.

I've never had a problem with sleeping while still high. I have the opposite problem..I cant sleep when I'm not high. I've gotten to the point where I'm up all night for about 3 or 4 nights. People I know have said trazadone or cough syrup works. Just drink and drink and drink!

i think thats one of the best parts. laying there, not really asleep, but certainly not awake. its like alucid dream almost.

then again not being able to sleep when your not high totally sucks.

but yeah i never can sleep on any opiate, but i spend most of the time in bed.

It's horrible if you don't get enough sleep. It's great when you get enough.

If you don't get enough you wake up feeling a little drunkish, due to a little of the drug leftover. And not to mention you puke everywhere.

Many a time I have ran through a very crowded hallway with puke puffing out my cheeks, only held by my hand. Unfortunately, I've become good at making sure that no puke slips out at all.

Who goes to sleep high?

Those with a good sized habit. I had to take a shot before going to sleep- I couldn't sleep otherwise. At it's worse, I'd usually wake up around 2-2:30 am and have to take another shot. Then in the morning, I'd have to take a shot to wake up.

It's all about functioning.

I get that sometimes myself. However, I find that I get the best sleep on a combo of opiate/benzo/weed. I have pretty bad insomnia and that combo knocks me right out. If I just use H alone I have trouble sleeping. Keeps you from going into deep sleep it feels like to me.

it is not unheard of for opiates to induce insomnia - but I think it we can all agree that overall less stimulating opiates (IMO heroin) largely put us asleep.

I think the difference is a new user might have trouble going to sleep while the effects of H have not worn off - because think about - sleeping while still under the groggy influence of H is a whole different ballgame than sleeping stone sober. while a battle-hardened junky will usually find no problem of sleeping after getting high AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT sleeping right after taking a shot.
