So I've been on fentanyl patch for a year, but I've been eating it. I eat half of a 16.8mg / 100mcg/h (so about 8.4mg give or take) patch a day, sometimes more. I could easily eat the whole patch, but I try to stretch it out to get to the whole 30 days, which never happens, I run at least 1 week short every month. I get really sick really fast when I run out. I always try to replace the patch by IV'ing heroin, but it's a poor substitute. I feel like no mater how much I do its never enough to get me feeling right.
I started on the patch after about 5 failed years of a slowly escalating morphine dose. In the end I was on 600 mg of morphine a day, 3 200mg pills a day. It was very hard switching to the fentanyl, I was sick for like a month.
So I don't know if I should give my whole history here or what, but just in case I will, if you don't think you want to read it, then help me with some suggestions on what can replace my fentanyl. The heroin is a very poor substitute, and i couldn't afford the amount that it would take to get me feeling better, maybe it's just really shitty stuff around here, idk.
But here goes with a little history, I was a heroin addict for many years, I was in a car accident and a fall while I was using and messed up discs and nerves in my back, but it didn't really bother me while I was a young homeless drug addict.
I got clean for many years, then noticed I was in a lot of pain from my back, I had to stop working, and was soon forced to get onto disability. Then I started pain management. For about a year I was on 5mg - 10mg oxys, I never took more than I was supposed to, never refilled early, but it definitely didn't help. So I was refereed to a different doc and was started on morphine, for 5-7 years I was a slowly increasing dose of morphine, started at 30mg a day, and ended at 600mg a day, not counting the breakthrough pain meds, which have always been either 15 or 30mg oxycodone.
After about a year on 600mg we decided it wasn't working and the doctor suggested the fentanyl patch. I switched over to it. Soon after I stopped wearing it and started eating it.
Now I'm in the boat in in now. What is a good replacement for fentanyl, for when I run out? Once I finally do get my fentanyl back I always feel like it's not enough, the first week or so i eat way too much, like almost like I have to build it back up in my system or something, idk. But it's kinda like crack, where you just want more and more of it.
