Nodding on Adderall?

Last night I got 20mg ER Addys, which I do know is not a very heavy dose at all. I proceeded crush up the beads and snorted all of it and about 5-10 minutes later I started nodding really hard.

I know drowsiness is a side effect of this drug if one has ADD/ADHD, but I have never been diagnosed with either, nor do I think that I have it (and I do see a psychiatrist regularly.) I have also snorted Rits in the past and had the normal stimulating effects, definitely no nods whatsoever.

I did have about 3mg of Xanax in my system, but I was dosing throughout the day (not all at once,) and I have a decent tolerance to Xanax so I am positive that this wasn't the reason for my nodding.

Has this happened to anyone else here or is this a sign that I do have ADD/ADHD?

(BTW, I wasn't sure if this belongs here or in BDD so feel free to move if necessary.)

I've never been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD but whenever i've taken amphetamines i tend to become very relaxed in the body. Amphetamines & Alprazolam u suprised u were nodding out?!
 
I think BDD is probably better for this but there is so much crossover in topics between the two that often its hard to know which to post in so no worried, brother.

Generally any basic combo/dosing/effect questions are better suited for BDD.

doppelganga196: As I said, I have a decent tolerance to Xanax so the amount I had taken was just enough to relax me, but nowhere near what I would need to nod. I took 3mg spread out throughout the day and I would need about 4.5-5mg all at once to really knock me out.

oneswtwld: I only took 20mg. I have seen a ton of posts on here saying that people with no tolerance should start out with about 30mg.

I have taken 30mg of amp salts a couple times in the past and had no response at all. Is there such a major difference between the ER beads and the salts that the effects would be so extremely different?
 
I have nodded while on 30mg XR before.

I was also on 80-100mg OC and like 200 mg DPH though..

Not to mention i didnt snort or parachute the addy.

Try and remember the type of sleep you had the night before. 20mg of amp isnt going to be enouigh to cancel out a shitty nights rest. Especially if you were also on Xanax.

I think this shit is heavily overstated. As well as anything about the "different" effect of stimulants on people with ADHD. I have yet to meet any person, adhd or not, who has taken an adequate amount of amphetamines of any sort, or stimulant of any sort and not become stimulated.

A calm exterior, doesn't mean they aren't stimmed, it often just seems that way to observers, because it gives people extra focus to the point where they arent all over the place like they normally would be unmedicated.

I could also probably take 20mg of adderall and take a nap, but I have a fairly large tolerance, 20 mg would be impossible for me to sleep on back in the day. Maybe you just have natural resistance, i don't think its adhd related.

Source: I'm diagnosed with ADHD and have been through pretty much every stimulant imaginable. (anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt)
 
^ Very good explanation. I think maybe you could be right about the natural tolerance thing. Thanks a lot for the input. You definitely seem like you know your shit about this.

20mg Adderall, in my opinion, wouldn't be enough to combat fatigue or sleepiness, particularly if it may have been induced by 3mg Xanax. However, people sensitive to stimulants (not necessarily people with ADD) may notice extreme fatigue / sleepiness if they take stimulants (as a result of overstimulation, perhaps). I haven't researched that much, but an ex-girlfriend of mine was put on 10mg adderall, and it knocked her out every time. It was odd, but the doctors said she was sensitive to stimulants. =/
 
It was the mix between the 3mg xanax and addys

The mix is pretty powerful

Also XRs fucking suck dude they take waaaay 2 long to feel any stimulating effects. This is just my opinion.
 
I can become drowsy with sustained release amphetamines and nod off. Adderall XR and Vyvanse are the culprits. I just took a nap an hour ago after taking Vyvanse and I've even taken a couple 30mg Adderall.

The effects of extended release go up and down because they release a certain amount of the drug at a time but when it wears off to quick before the rest of the amphetamine is released. If the first release of amphetamine salt wears off too early then that may be why you get drowsy.

Also check your sleep cycle

I know you don't want to hear this, but even though your tolerant to the Xanax, your still experiencing some effects that you don't notice. That may have something to do with it as well. I was on Klonopin with a massive tolerance when on Adderall XR. (I'm now on the instant release)

Those are my few opinions.
 
hmmm thats odd i, never get teird on adderall untill its completly worn off, even in combanation with my morning 4mg klonopin dose. fuuuck my first time ever doing adderal i took 6 20mg XR the dark red ones taht actually say "adderall XR" on them and the kid gave them to me for free cuz i got him pretty drunk taht weekend...man i wish he woulda told me how to use them properly.......i was gacked outa my mind for 5 days.....started seeing those spiders n shit out the corner of my eyes crystal clear visions of stuff like my rocking chair moving back and forth while im sitting there jsut staring at it......whispers nshit, sometimes i felt like someone was throwing a cobweb over my skin that was the hardest part....i dont even wanna mention the adderal hangovwer i got from it.....

but yeah i sitll pop adderal bout a few times a week.....and popping them is what i like the best, because it lasts the longest....snorting it will give you that fuckin rush for like 5 hours but comdown is veryyyy tierng...and poppin them gives me the longest one, but i cant eat anything when i pop them....i can still take any mg and get gacked out, not getting tierd till the shit comes down
 
This is becoming a known phenomenon now and I can't figure this one for the life of me. Especially if this is happening to a non chronic addict user.

This happens to me pretty regularly: I wake up or what ever and I usually am feeling decently energized and awake. Then as soon as I take my XR, whenever that may be, (I take no sedatives or downers or any other substance along with the addy) and the effect is very contradictory; I suddenly get "dropped down" and feel some snap crackles and pops in my brain and I am totally totally drowsy like I need to sleep right away.

The strange thing is I am still getting the accelerated heart and physiologically I am getting the speed upper affect but my mind is telling me I need to sleep badly. I have experimented with this and I can't figure it out because it doesn't always happen.

I think XR may be the culprit here because this is one observation I've made. The XR's have a 2-part delivery system, it splits the dose in half, so if you have a 30mg XR it works like this:

You take pill and within 15 minutes the first half of the pills beads have dissolved and released 15mg of amp, then about 3.5 hours later the coating on the second set of beads dissolves and releases the remining 15mg into your system... and you can certainly feel it when that second payload is released, there's no mistake about it. So on occasssion even when that second dose is released I feel the snap crackle pop and I'm nodding out at my desk. So sometimes I feel it on the first half-dose, sometimes on the second-half dose, sometimes I dont feel it at all. But it is quite distinct and dramatic when it happens and there is no question this comes from the adderall. The effect of drowsiness is so pronounced that when it hits I literally nod off into a sleep zone within seconds and then snap right back out but I am still heavily sedated, like we're talking heroin nod sedated levels.

From what I've found in my research about this it could be an "absence seizure". These are known to happen with Adderall.

What the hell is this I would love to know.
 
umm....i have used adderall many times (binging,snorting, IR's, XR's) and have never felt like i was nodding (i have used opiates before).
