i remember a time;

when families pulled through
and love was forever
when people wrote long letters
tv had wit and writers were clever

no one spoke ill of the dead
respect was your greatest possession
men didnt cry at funerals
love involved courting not obsession

friend often grew old together
sharing life beyond just high school
manners were important
lack of dignity was frightful

every hotel had a bible
everyone helped those they could
heros were boys who survived polio
compassion was more then 'i should'

freedom was a sunday evening
the right to go to work the next day
the opportunity to read at night
the satisfaction of seeing children play

before people rushed home for tv
before people stole for drugs
before lust took over trusting friends
before locks to keep away thugs

i remember a time i'm not sure existed
a place that only in dreams i've been
but there was a safety surrounding this place
a contrasting fantasy i forgot i had seen

Nice line. Incisive.

You said it. But nostalgia isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for sharing. :)

This had wonderful sentiments. I don't think this world ever existed in my lifetime and I'm unsure it really ever did exist beyond sugar-coated TV specials and biased story lines but it's so nice to feel as if the world was once more forgiving than the one we currently live in.

(I still watch the Brady Bunch. ;))
