No stimulants really work for me except some energy drinks very rarely?

I've been diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers. I'm not sure if the ADHD diagnosis is accurate, as I am no longer hyper (I was when I was a kid). I have used numerous stimulants, including caffeine, adrafinil (absolutely no effect with this), and Adderall. None of these seemed to give me any sort of noticeable energy increase 99% of the time, but when they do it's very strong.I have used 5 hour energy a few times, mostly with little to no effect. However, one time I did get a very serious heart rate increase, and felt extremely stimulated. After a while it got out of control, and I had to go to the doctor. He said I was dehydrated and I drank a lot of water.
Also, I have consumed monster energy numerous times, but again only noticed an energy increase once. This was while playing a first person shooter video game. I drank 2 cans (normal size) and noticed a very intense energy increase, and started playing out of my mind. The first game after noticing the increase of energy, I beat my record for most kills in one game. The next few games were the same, and I got more kills each game than the last, before coming down and playing like normal again.
As a kid, I took Adderall and it helped a bit with school. I am currently on Adderall again (prescribed by a doctor) after being off of it for many years. I have taken it for the first time about 2 hours ago (took 40mg of XR, twice my prescribed dose as I expected nothing from it and don't plan on taking it daily), and notice some slight stimulation, but nothing major. Some light headedness, small body load/tingly feeling, possibly slight heart rate increase (didn't test before so can't confirm), some couch lock possibly? Also, I do not notice any increase in motivation or drive to be more productive, or anything of the sort. May play some FPS games soon to see if there's any difference there.
I am very confused as to why only certain stims work for me, and why they only work very rarely. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!

TL;DR I am diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers and stimulants usually do next to nothing for me, but on 2 occasions with energy drinks they effected me very strongly.

Perhaps your taking some kind of medications that interact? Or maybe it's psychological? Probloms with absorbtion? (since amphatmines are less bioavailabile than caffiene ) .

40mg XR isn't the same as just taking 40mg - most likely it's just not absorbing fast enough to feel anything. Think of it more like you're taking 5mg every half an hour for 4 hours, or something like that. Next time I recommend crushing it up before bombing it =D
