Yet another letter ...
The envelope all worn
How long have you contemplated sending this?
The paper is almost torn
Like most thing in your life
You've left this far too late
You chose that path to follow
What lies ahead - your fate
As I read your letter page by page
The words - I don't comprehend
No effort I use to try and understand
The mistakes you want to amend
At what point do I owe you forgiveness?
Is it something I'm willing to do?
So many questions unanswered ...
For the answers I look to you
Such an act of selfishness ...
When you left us, did you even care?
Were you unprepared for fatherhood?
What drove you to the affair?
A family not exactly well off
Okay, life wasn't grand
But when you left us - so destitute
Is something I'll never understand
Each year you seek my approval
A father you claim you want to be
But you've caused so much pain and anguish
You shall obtain no mercy from me
I've become quite accustomed to seeking help
From others, in your place
And such a terrifying thought -
I'm not afraid to forget your face
For it was you who turned your back ...
You chose to abandon us three
Never once did it cross your mind
How your departure may effect me
So ... I hope you appreciate this letter
