Opioids No Euphoria

I have been using Oxycodone for about a year now, daily dose anywhere from 30 to 90 mgs. I am concerned because one day, out of the complete blue, I stopped feeling the euphoria from oxy.

The day it stopped I took one 30mg blue pill, it hit in the morning and felt great, then I went to a friends party and ingested two more 30 mg OPs and felt nothing. I thought, you know, pretty strange but maybe I maxed out my tolerance for the day. The next day I tried to do the same, and the same effects, I get groggy but no euphoria. I have been taking about 30mg a day since then looking for a high, sometimes up to 60 mg, and I feel absolutely nothing. No sign of euphoria, no subtle tingle, absolutely nothing. Am I broken?

Normally I insufflate 15 mgs at different periods of the day and would still feel a subtle euphoria, now I get absolutely nothing. Even with a low dose of 10mg vicodin I would feel subtle waves of euphoria. I didn't think my tolerance was that high, because when I would do 90mgs I would feel EXTREMELY GOOD. Now it is just nothing.

Can the body learn how to absorb the pill without giving you the effects of the euphoria? Will I ever get euphoria again? Can it just quit without warning like that?

Yes, maybe (if you abstain for a long time), and yes. It's called tolerance and it happens to everyone who uses drugs regularly to some extent, but it is easier to see the effect with regular usage of euphoriant drugs. Especially with regular usage.

If you are not using oxycodone as prescribed for pain control you may want to look into an opiate detox now. Escalating your dosages or dosing much less often are the only ways you're going to change this.

Welcome to Bluelight! :)

It's sounds like your out of the honeymoon phase and into the part where you use to feel normal rather than get high. Sounds like it's time to taper down for a tolerance break.

I cant accurate say for your what the hell is up but it just seems like tolerance. You see with opiates, you cant just take the same dose for a years time and expect it to do the same thing it did when you were first starting out taking it.

Theres no maximum amount of tolerance either or whatever. It just keeps on increasing if you keep on upping the dose and chasing the same high.

But i dont know if you dose daily or whatever. Still i'd suggest increasing your dose abit and see what happends. That is if you want to get high. From the sounds of it though you should take other posters advice here i think.

This is kinda the make or break moment for your current habit. Whether you decide to check yourself and slow down and keep your use recreational, or you can decide to chase the opiate glow for what its worth, but what you're feeling now dude, this will keep on happening, faster and more intense. Tolerance is fucked, and is what makes opiate addiction completely fucked from a recreational perspective. Opiate addiction is not recreational in the slightest. It really does get to the point where you're struggling just to not be a sick mess and just be able to face existance without sickness, forget getting high once it gets to this stage.... Food for thought. And trust me when it gets to the point when the dose that gets you high will keep you feeling normal for 3 days if u dont dose it all at once, you just end up not caring about getting high, and would rather take the 3 days of wellness, because u know 6 hours of high and 2.5 days of sickness is just fucked. So yeah there's opiate addiction in a nutshell, turn the fuck back while you can.

yeah man you hit the wall and now you get to choose which path to take.

chase the high and get fucked

or stop and save yourself.

everything 8L4YN3 said is dead on.

Welcome to the beginning stages of addiction my friend.... Take this as a warning if you aren't already addicted after a years worth of 30-90 mg's. It took me about 2 months of 60-300 mg's a day to become full blown addicted. I'm clean now but quit while your're ahead man... Doing pills just to feel normal isn't fun and if you cant get any you'll end up feeling sick. Withdrawal is such a horrible thing I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.

Called tolerance you should of learned this before you consumed this drug.

i have little tolerance to opiates and only take them twice a week but sometimes i get euphoria and sometimes i don't. this is with decent quality heroin. i don't understand why i don't get euphoria from it sometimes. it's definitely not tolerance because its been that way since my first opiate ever.

Yes, of course this can happen. Your body expects tolerance to form, and naturally instead of allowing your body to die form an ever increasing dose, it starts to send out signals to the CNS which are opposite to the drug's effects. Meaning, if you are used to shooting heroin, your body will begin to raise its own heart rate and blood pressure in order to compensate for an ever-increasing dosage of IV heroin.

Otherwise drug addicts would die form their otherwise large doses of drugs. Other people without tolerances cannot tolerate this dose of a drug becasue they are not used to it, their bodies have not begun to form a response to the cues which are present every time the addict uses.

Tolerance is also defined when you get less effects with the same dosage of a given drug, or (as you pointed out) - when you have to increase the dosage to attain a desired effect.

opiate receptor desensitization

the more you use or the longer you use the more they get desensitized
Also it gets worse with the higher affinity opioids like fentanyl.

I'm not sure how re-sensitization works, for some people it doesnt seem to happen at all.

I don't really think the problem here is opiate desensitization.
you said you took a 30 mg oxy blue pill, felt great, and then took two thirty mg OP's and felt nothing. Well, I looked up the 30 mg OP and they arn't blue, so I'm assuming the first 30 you did was a roxi, which is an instant release, and the OP's are continuous release. So even someone with a small tolerance to opioids would probably not feel 60 mg of oxy stretched over a super long time. And your tolerance is probably TOO high that sniffing just 15 mg of Oxy wont get you quite high but gets you higher, and the same with taking the vicodin.*I won't tell you to do something that could potentially harm you, though.*

^Yes, It seems like the problem could potentially lie in the Pills you are using. The OP pills are the new formulation of oxycodone, and it is very tough to defeat the time release. 30mg blues are instant release, whereas the OPs are extended release. Obviously with the older OCs crushing them was sufficient enough to defeat the time release. Unfortunately, the newer OP style oxycodones will remain extended release, and the gel up when combined with water.

I do agree with what everyone else said about tolerance though, but I just think there is more to thsi situation than simple tolerance. The type/brand of pills could most definitely play a significant role in your supposed "reduction of effects/raising of your tolerance".

taking a vacation for a while (2 months +) sometimes helps, though it's never going to be the same as the first few times doing opiates. it's basically a relationship. for some couples a small break helps them realize how much they love/miss each other. like the "you never know how special or important __________ was until it's gone" cliche'

i got prescribed a beta-blocker called propranolol for performance anxiety (its also a blood pressure medicine). once i did a google search about, i found out it blocks the euphoric effects of opiates.... i found this interesting since i had just told my doc i had been using opiates recreationally... dumb idea lol.
are you taking propranolol for any reason?

good point

on my last day of highschool i ate 4 of the old 20mg OC's without crushing it, while drinking beer.. i never got high..

Thomas, I know of tolerance, thank you, but I found it really odd I felt it one day and not the next. Thank most of you for extending your knowledge, i know I am already addicted to this substance, and my next stop is some suboxene so I can come off easily.

However, I have gotten the euphoria back, maybe it was something in my system for those few days.

I find this is the same for me.

I get oxy maybe a handful of times a year. If I haven't taken any in months, it feels really great to take 20-30mg. If I get a decent supply (say 200mg) then after a couple doses, even if I split them up every few days, I can take up to 50mg and feel nothing but groggy. I find it's important to moderate opiates, just like any drug. Better to have a friend for life, who you can visit every so often.

I've been a chipping for 14 years.

I agree, but I'll just add, when I got to that point, and eased off (I didn't just take a break, it was 4 years of clean living).....when i came back to it I still needed just as much and it was never like it was in the beginning. Never even close. And I only hit the wall sooner and harder the next time.

Tolerance

Bad issue really. I think that it must be your tolerance and probably showing that you have reached the point of being a proper junky (shooting/ using just to feel normal.) Sorry mate.
I guess the only way is to cut back on your use regiment. Good luck.
