So, for the last few years I've had a pretty big physical addiction to alcohol. It never really caused me any problems, and I wasn't interested in quitting, but the fact was I was drinking most nights, and the nights I wasn't drinking I wished I was. Drinking to relax, drinking to have a good time, or just sitting around at home drinking for no particular reason.

That all changed about a month ago. I dosed dxm twice on my days off, first at 350mg and the second time at 750mg. On the second dose I had a fantastic out of body trip that really blew my expectations out of the water, but that's not really the point.

I had no desire to drink for the first few days after the trip, which I chalked up to the dxm hangover. But this lack of desire continued. I've had a few beers with friends in the mean time, but what I've had this month probably amounts to what I'd normally consume in a night or two. The desire to drink is just gone, I can't explain it. The effects are still there, same as ever as far as I can tell, but unless I'm put in a situation where there is alcohol, drinking is the furthest thing from my mind.

I've read a bit of scant research on the use of NMDA Antagonists as treatments for substance abuse in the time since, looking for an explanation as to what's happened, but all I can really say is I'm glad it did.

I could get drunk again if I wanted to, but for the time being at least, I don't seem to want to at all.

Anyone else have experience with this?

i've heard NMDA antagonists can reverse tolerance to alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, and benzos. but idk about reverse of addiction.

*ibogaine, a psychedelic that activates 5-HT2c receptors(like LSD & mescaline), kappa opioid receptors, and antagonizes NMDA receptors, is used for drug and alcohol dependence and is very sucessfull. i can confirm as it got me over cocaine addiction and alcoholism a while ago. sadly, the DEA doesn't see the good in it and ibogaine is illegal in the U.S.

however there are legitamate ibogaine clinics in other countries(including Mexico) and "underground" clinics in the U.S.(but ibogaine is rare and expensive).
