I need some help or advice with getting off of the cigarettes. I've done it all from smoking crack with the homeless, to staying up for days on meth, to blacking out on benzo's, & even going through various withdrawals. I've managed to clean my act up since January & lower my usage to weed & cigarettes, along with the monthly drink, benzo, or acid trip.

However, since I was 17 (now almost 21), I've been smoking daily. I find them harder to stay away from than Meth. Which was pretty hard for me as Meth landed me straight in the psych-ward where I ended up using in the ward. I have just been put on Zyban 150mg (to be upped to 300mg in the next day). I am still smoking cigarettes & find I don't have the will...

Anyone here managed to kick cigarettes or has been on Zyban for it? I don't know what it is about them, but they have been the hardest of them all to kick.

I've kicked a 300mg a day oxycodone habit, but have been unable to kick a cigarette habit, and honestly, I'll probably never be able to get off of them.

My Nana used zyban and stopped for 5 years - then started again.
My parents both quit 2 years ago, they used a diff prescription drug to zyban, but similar thing, smoke x amount each day n after a fortnite u stop. The tablets last 3 months then ur on ur own.
My Dad says he still craves now and again, but copes.
I asked doc 4 some as I've tried willpower, patches, gum, ecigs in the past wiv no joy, but they can trigger depression these tablets so as a bipolar 1 I received a big fat no.
If you get nowhere on the zyban I'll find out what they're called off my dad.
Hope u do better than me! Good luck!

Ok well lets put it like this.

You can try will power, patches, gum, ecigs, lozenges, zyban, wellbutrin, WHATEVER YOU WANT. But the unfortunate fact about smoking, is you will never stop UNTILL you STOP buying cigarettes. STOP using them. STOP thinking about them. STOP dreaming about them.

I'll be honest when I managed to quit for 3 years it wasn't will power that helped me. My life had undergone real changes where I just became more confident in myself, more happy about my life, and I was able to just put the cigs down and never think about them again (well for a few years).

I find if you actually change your life positively in other ways, and make YOURSELF STRONGER AS A PERSON, quitting becomes that much easier.
All the times I smoked in my life was when I just wasn't happy. I just wasn't secure about myself or the life I lived, so I smoked because I felt like "why does it matter? my life sucks anyway".

Once I started running, forcing myself to workout, focused more on my diet, just having a normal/stable life, shockingly I just put the cigs down one day and that was it. I'll be honest but I think visualization had a lot to do with it. Say I went for a run one day, I'd visualize what it would be like the following day to just go about my routine, w/out a cigarette in my hand or mouth. I envisioned myself as a nonsmoker. I really tried to step outside my current identity as a smoker, and just kinda "teased" myself towards the challenge of not smoking anymore. The more and more I visualized myself as a nonsmoker, and really tried to see myself in my own head as a nonsmoker, the more I began to believe I wasn't a smoker.

Its a really crazy thing to explain, but I remember doing it a lot before I quit. I took it almost like a challenge. "Ok so I'm obviousy having problems putting the cigs down, what if I just intensely focus on seeing myself going about my entire day, w/out having 1 cig?". I would sit down for a good 30 mins, and imagine myself waking up in the mornings. "Ok this is when I usually have a cig, so what can I imagine myself doing that would be better than having a cig?" Then I'd imagine myself eating a really incredible breakfast. Afterwards I'd think "ok so this is when I want to smoke most, what can I do instead of having a cig after breakfast?" Then I'd visualize myself going for a run.

I kept doing this day after day, and honestly the more you just think about something, the more natural it begins to feel for you. One day it didn't feel that out of reach anymore, so I gave it the ultimate test and refused to buy another pack of cigs. I tried to really detach and not even focus on the fact I was quitting. The more you focus on the fact you're quitting cigs, the more you think about cigs, and the more you want to have them. The visualization technique was more about focusing on myself WITHOUT cigs, they weren't even part of the picture, and so it made it easier to stop.

For me it was cutting off that ENTIRE thought track completely that worked. Not sure if it will work for you, but it helped me A LOT.

e-cigs

^ ecigs could be useful if you're determined, you really want to, not because you 'want' to cos, say, doctors told you you're gunna get copd at a really early age if you don't. And, you are able to cope with some nicotine craving as IMO it just takes edge off. Lastly, don't expect it to be exactly like a ciggarette - feels totally different.
My brother and I both got 1 of these with 200 cartridges each. Think I lasted 2 days, my brother a week, though we only tried cus he gets nagged off his bird to quit and I get nagged off everyone over my chest. Basically I wanted a proper fag, with proper smoke an nicotine with all those poisonous chemicals cos my health is screwed anyway so I'm past caring - for someone who does care and has a bit of willpower, I can see that these could be helpful.

Guys I kind of have this theory. See, about a year ago I had a script to adderall (Amphetamine salts), and it was a 2 20mg ir a day script, which are pretty good doses. When I was taking the amphetamines, I completely lost all cravings for cigarettes, and I didn't even try to stop smoking, I just did. Like I didn't want em anymore, didn't need em. Almost like I couldn't smoke cause it wasn't appetizing anymore. Can it be said that amphetamines are a good help to quitting cigarettes? Or was it just me?

I don't know about that but chantix has the same effect after about a week of taking it, it like hey I forgot to smoke and you have one and it's like huh that was shitty and you just forget time passes and your like by did I even smoke. But it's does take will power. And I have zero will power and it worked for me.

I also smoke less when am amped up, but seem to smoke more when it's wearin off and I don't fancy bein amped up ALL the time believe it or not, I do like to catch the occassional Z.

How does Chantix work? I know that Zyban works in a similar nature to Khat or MDPV (obviously less intense), but I don't have a clue how Chantix works on the system.

E-cigs sound like a good idea. I've even been looking online today.

As for Amphetamines maybe being a way to stop cigarettes, I also found that I smoked less when on uppers, but also more at the same time. I'd crave smokes, but felt to speedy to sit outside & finish an entire one.

Chantix work like zyban but it like numbs. Up the sensors in brain that want nicotine so even if u smoke the receptors don't get the nicotine.
Start with on pill a day the two a day the mg's go up and you take two a day for six to eight weeks. Vivid dreams, sometimes it make you moody, and ect for side effects.

Hi there. Glad to hear you've taken that first step in the right direction for yourself. Tha'ts always some of the best news one might expect to hear... but it's enough.Let me just say, this one brand of electronic cigarette (they're the only ones worth buying and the company's name is a sort-of pun off of the phonetic saying of the chemical name for water) are the most reliable, variable in types of flavor, customizable, delicious vapor, and not all that buillshit that goes along with smoking.

What's the primary purpose for wanted to quit? Is it health-related (I'm assuming)?

Anyway, I'm well-aware of the fact that e-cigarettes have not been evaluated by the FDA in terms of their applications as aids in smoke-cessation programs. In my personal circumstance, I have no interest in quitting nicotine as a solitary pseudo-stimulant drug. What I do, however, care very much about is the fact that after eleven years, I've been smoking-fucking-free for over FIVE WEEKS now and I feel like a million dollars.

I'm also spending under 27% per month, if that, instead of what I was spending for real cigarettes.
My car's always clean now; I can tape in the car while it's raining without the windows down. I don't had to have gum to hide it from co-workers; I can tape at work. I don't stink afterward, and I'm not hooting up globs that look as though they could be new forms of life from an as-yet-undiscovered planet. Not the FIRST think you wanna hear... but I'm completely okay with it :) It just feels great to feel better again.
P.S. You ARE able to taper using e-cigarettes the cartomizers (the "filter"-looking piece of metal with the nicotine suspension in it from this particular brand are Cartomizers EACH are equivalent to 1-2 packs of cigarettes, yet cost less than $3.00 each and there are four different types of cartomizer available, differentiated by the level of nicotine they have in them respectively.

They have 24mg, 18mg, 8mg and 0mg cartomizers available, and its what I plan to take eventually (the 0mg ones, I've been vacillating between the 24mg Original flavor and 18mg "Red" flavor, trying to use the least amount of nic but I know that some will . But if I wasn't able to replicate that oral fixation stage with pills that can cause organ failure, patches that saturate you in nicotine and leaving you perma-ill for the rest of the day

Thanks for the informative reply. :) However, sorry to say after you took the time to write that, I'm Canadian. Nicotine is not approved for e-cigs here. Also, oure brand are always different. I did find ones that are good for 400 puffs & are dispoble though for under $15. :D

E-cigarettes are hugely helpful. WAY better than any gum/mints/patch/etc. You can get nicotine e-cigs or e-liquid in Canada, you just have to know where to look. I usually just go to the US to get mine, but there are definitely some Canadian suppliers. Go on a popular internet e-cigarette or "vaping" forum and search or ask around for the Canadian supplier list, or go to a local Vapers meet-up where they will have vendors. Usually the cheap disposables are not very good, and the quality of your e-cig will affect how helpful it is to you. I also highly recommend bupropion, aka Zyban. Then you can also read books on addiction and on quitting smoking, those can be very helpful too. If you combined all 3 of those things I think you would have a very high chance of success. Good luck :)

Thanks for the tips. Already got myself on Zyban now for 5 days so far. It hurts my stomach, but I take it with Ginger to counter that. :)
