I was in class one day and I overheard one guy telling his friend how hard it was for him to quit cigarettes, while I am sitting across the room going through some bad withdrawals from Hydrocodone. I just wanted to get up and tell him what an addiction really is. I mean I used to smoke, but I quit just fine, no bad effects except getting pissed off over little things real easily. I'm wondering why people make such a big deal out of quitting smoking, its just stupid in my opinion, anyone got any other ideas?

I never have had a problem quitting smoking, but I think we are the unusual ones. I can't even count the recovering addicts I know that can't quit smoking.

I hate smoking.
I still smoke a pack a day.
I have stopped many drugs (that I liked - from opiates, meth, benzos, weed and many more).
So my question is, if I hate smoking so much why don't I just quit?
The answer is.... I don't have a fucking clue.
The moral of the story is "addiction to cigarettes is a depressing habit that I just don't have the inspiration to quit".
It's insanity and I wish I had the answer.

OMG, you just gave away your trademark font. I didn't quote you so you can still edit your post.

Out of respect, this will be the one and only time I breach your trademark. ;)

nicotine addiction (specifically tobacco, actually) is supposed to be the, the hardest to break

there are exceptions nonetheless

This made me lol.

But yeah I'm a 20+ a day smoker. I have no interest in quitting I enjoy everything about it.
I think if I tried though a lot of people would end up dead.

These seem to be opinions, which everyone is entitled to, i think the success rate of staying "clean" from cigarettes is increased when accompanied by a professional doctor who specializes in this domain. unfortunately i can't do everything at once J/K but i'll get there.

I have been a constant at least one pack a day smoker since 2001 (before then I smoked, was able to quit and start up again) I know it will kill me because I already have COPD. Cigarettes are reviled by many people, they waste me tons of money and stink up my house. But being around my dad who smokes 3+ packs a day makes it hard to quit and he refuses to smoke outside. When you're around people who chain smoke, it sort of rubs off on you. I know I need to stop but just can't.

i smoke cigerettes off an on, normaly arround half a pack a day. i dont have a problem starting and stopping and i could probly stop alltogether, but i do love spliff.

if nicotine isnt that addictive then people must be wasting money on packs per day for no reason. wtf people

There's no shot in hell of me quitting when I'm still on Oxycodone.

When I'm on the nod I'm also on the pack, hard. Like I can go through 15 cigarettes or more just in the time frame of one two hour high.

Oxycodone makes me fuggin chainsmoke like nobody's business.

The American on the gold rush has always a sharp spike behind him poking his anus and so he is always working, stressed, always thinks about money and never takes vacation:

"this business is about getting filthy rich. You want vacation time? Go become a teacher. In here there's no vacation, only work."

You cannot reason with American and tell him to relax and contemplate the beauty of existence. All you can do is to fabricate a joint and stick it in his teeth to give him a 5 minute stress relief, so he can quickly return to work. When this is their only outlet, renouncing to it is very difficult. You know, if you tell American to practice 2 hours of Yoga, he laughs at you, time is money, 5 minute smoke > shitty 2 hour meditation. Hahaha!

Because we all know that only a stupid American would smoke a cigarette.

only americans would willingly spend money to slowly kill themselves while the govt and corporations rake in the cash, this is true

I agree with OP, hearing people say how horribly hellish quitting cigs are pisses me off. These are usually the same people who tell real junkies "if you really wanted to stop, you could"

However, quitting cigs can be hard for some people obviously, but it cannot be anywhere near as painful and depressing as quitting a hard drug addiction

I've quit chew and cigs, few years on, few years off, never really had trouble, hell I had more trouble quitting caffeine or weed than cigs. Guess I should consider myself lucky this is the 1 easy addiction I had

You cannot reason with a Canadian and tell him to stop playing hockey and enjoy life with a full mouth of teeth. All you can do is fabricate some hockey video games and stick it in his Ehx box 360 so he'll play those for 5 minutes before hopping in the toboggan and heading down the street to the rink. When this is their only outlet, renouncing it is very difficult. You know, if you tell a Canadian to practice personal and dental hygiene, he laughs at you, hockey is life, hockey for life > having a life. Hahaha!
