^I'm just a hockey fan. I root for players I enjoy rather than teams.

...Although I do not like the Red Wings, regardless of the players on their team.

oh man, i'm a blue jackets fan, first and foremost, and though the wings are in our division, i still enjoy watching them because they play attractive hockey. they lack consistent goaltending, but their defense and offense are typically prototypical and an enjoyment to watch.

prior to the blue jackets, it was kind of a free for all. mostly a new jersey fan though because when i was getting into hockey, new jersey played a good brand. not to mention fox started carrying the NHL and i started getting sports illustrated shortly thereafter which solidified my liking because i was exposed to them the most. front runner-ism... perhaps, but i was young. :)

any particular players you enjoy watching more than others?

^Yeah, big guys that can score like Ovechkin and Malkin... I also like to watch the guys that get drafted to see how they do in their first couple years.

guys like ovechkin, malkin, and crosby don't come around too often. i LOVE watching them play. ovechkin (in my opinion) is the purest scorer since wayne gretzky, the guy practically scores at will, but he's bigger than gretzky and can put a hurt on the opposing players as well. he's the complete package, easily the game's most exciting ambassador.

as far as the draft picks go. i'm with you. i went to the draft in columbus in 07 and i've been following those players pretty closely. it's especially cool to see jakub voracek start coming around since he was the jackets' first pick. same with steve mason. i remember him as the canadian world juniors gold medalist and now i'm watching him stymie offenses on MY team. the kid's years younger than me, but is so impressive in the crease. he proved he's not just a flash in the pan.

now you got guys like tavares, kane, toews, phaneuf, kessel, malkin, crosby, jack johnson, etc, these guys that just come into the league and dominate from day one. that shit makes for some exciting hockey.

Indeed. The other sport I watch predominately is NCAA football, and much for the same reason. You get to see all the developing talent and the ones that are just machines. Too bad so many of the great NHL players are brought up in Russia and Canada, cause I'd love to see them around age 17-18.

some of the QMJHL teams let you watch their games online for free on their sites. you can watch the mooseheads' games. which is where pascal leclaire and voracek came from. crosby came from the rimouski oceanic of the QMJHL... you should look into it. it's a lot to take on being as though you're watching some talent before it's touted as NHL calibre talent, but with guys like crosby, they knew he was gonna be an NHL star when he was 12.

Anyone see that nice Marion Hossa "drop shot" vs. the Lightning? It was awesome, I can't wait for a clip of it to appear online.

Edit- Here it is

Who saw the footage of defenseman Keith Ballard slashing his own goalie in the face by accident?

Probably the wildest thing I've seen in a while.

Check it out:

Panthers defenseman Keith Ballard, in a fit of frustration, went to smash his stick on the goal cage after the Thrashers scored a goal Monday in the first period. Problem was, goalie Tomas Vokoun was occupying the area and took a hard hit to the head from Ballard's two-handed baseball swing. Vokoun had to be attended to by medical personnel on the ice and was wheeled off to a waiting ambulance. According to general manager Randy Sexton and coach Pete DeBoer, Vokoun and Ballard spoke on the plane and all is well. ``There are no hard feelings,'' Sexton said Tuesday afternoon. ``They are moving on.''

^that was so crazy, i cant believe that happened

My Rangers are finally getting their shit together, even though they lost to the Thrashers tonight, they are looking great

listen to this though, I ordered an authentic Rangers Wayne Gretzky jersey online and it cost me $45, i was jumping up and down like a little girl

BTW how do you guys feel about the American Olympic Team pick?

I thought Johnson had an excellent first game and was a little disappointed that they were bested in a shootout.

Glad to see them finally get a few big wins though.

Just a quick hello to fellow hockey fans. I'd forgotten about this part of the Bluelight site, otherwise I would have tracked down the hockey sooner.

I'm a Vancouver Canucks fan (have been for many, many years) but I'm in so many different pools that I've got an interest in all sorts of players and teams.

This season I'm enjoying watching Drew Doughty ...and I wish I were enjoying Steve Mason. I've drafted both in a CBS pool and Mason is killing me. I have him opening the door on the bench. Soon he'll be barbecuing after games - hey, whatever it takes. Don't have the guts to drop him just yet. This week I've taken on Mike Smith in hopes of finding a goaltending stopgap.
