Next step up from Oxycodone?

I'm going to tell my dr at my next appt that I'm concerned about all this tylenol (as I did have my pancreas stop working and my liver enzymes hit 46k once) and was wondering what would be the next best drug to take that is as strong as or more so then Oxycodone and has no APAP? Thanks in advance! :)
 
Well the easy answer is oxycontin, or roxicodone. They are both oxycodone, but do not have apap. I believe oxycontin starts at 5mg, and between Oxycontin and Roxicodone they cover 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 80 mgs of oxycodone, but ofcoarse without the APAP

Thank you very much :) Now I can research those two drugs and be prepared to ask him for it. I take way to many Percocets and definitely need to get rid of the APAP. I do know about CWE but I'd rather have something readily available.
 
I agree, I tell my brother the same thing. There is no point in consuming apap which causes 70 percent of liver disease, when you could get oxycontin which does not have any apap. Your reasons are valid for wanting to switch, and oxycontin or roxicodone does not require having to figure out the equivalent dose of a different pain med.
 
For Roxicodone, yes - It's exactly the same.

For Oxycontin, not exactly. It's the same drug, but Oxycontin is released over a long period of time, whereas Percocets are released instantly. Which means if you take 40mg of OxyContin, it'll be released over a 8 hour period, instead of 40mg of percocet released instantly. Generally, the idea is that you do a much higher dose of oxycontin, but much less frequently.

I'm actually going to do the same thing at my next visit. I'm also taking Percocet for pain and I'm on Cymbalta which can have dangerous side effects where the liver is concerned.

Smart move on your part to research what you are taking. :)

Any way to make OxyContin release faster? And about how much would I take to equal the 40 mg of Percocet feeling? Thanks :)
 
I would move to oxycodone, or oxycontin. After that the next step up would probably be opana or maybe dilaudid.
 
I honestly don't feel a difference between a 40mg oxycontin, and 4 10mg percocets. But the truth is, I chew both.
Now oxycontin is going to release their "tamper-proof" oxycontin in a couple of months which would prevent chewing them.
Roxicodone is instant release, and seems to be prescribed more often recently.

The roxi comes in 15, and 30mgs. The rest of the mgs I listed before were for oxycontin.
 
I take Roxicodone, because my dr is cool and looks out for my liver... she wont script anything with APAP in it. You should definatly bring it up.. the leading cause of death for chronic pain patients is liver failure because of APAP. Good luck!!

Roxis work very well if taken in a timely fashion.... if you don't want to worry with as many pills you could always try OxyContin.
